Can you believe it's been 10 years?
The project began on this date in 2011 when I saw PocheJP's epic jambalaya post.
Jambalaya - Gonzales Style
I had been kicking around ideas in my head about how to do a spreadsheet, but I knew it would be hard to gain acceptance without a good base recipe as the default values.
PocheJP's recipe was a great one (although I did personalize it a bit).
I started putting my ideas into a spreadsheet, and after a while, I sent it to him for his comment. He blew it out of the water. I was determined to push on, and not long after, I posted a spreadsheet that looked something like this:
After about a years time, it had evolved into something I was confident enough in to send to the Times Picayune's Food Editor, Judy Walker. This was the result:
Rat and TD make the big time!
By that time it looked more like it does today:
After a while I made some improvements and sent that version to Judy resulting in this:
The Jambalaya Calculator could only exist in Louisiana
Download latest Jamabalaya version here
This article garnered over 12,000 likes and hundreds of shares. the rest is history, as they say.

So when does the F&D board start seeing their cut of the royalties?

Ive used it many times. For a few LSU/Auburn games as well. All the LSU fans that came by to grab a bite said it was delicious

Thanks Rat and Pochejp! You were doing God’s work.

I started using about 6 months ago even though I've seen it posted on here and discussed many times. Never had the urge to make jambalaya before then. It's a must have if I am cooking jambalaya or pastalaya. Works great.

The calculator went a long way in helping me learn how to make a jambalaya. Small pots I now have my measurements memorized to perfection, but I’ll still refer back to it on the occasions when I’m asked to make large amounts for weddings and benefits and such.

It worked out perfect both times I used it. Both times were with a 12 quart pot.
Any updates or at least current link to the crawfish calculator?

Great job making that tool Rat. I use it and send it to many friends.

My first and only only app purchase.
Yep I'm a cheap bastard but I'll support this board.

Not to be morbid, bur your project will be utilized long after you're gone (hopefully not for a long, long time).
Something to be very proud of. If a city boy from Ohio that has never been to LA, nor tasted good Jamb, can make a something that people ask the recipe for, you know its special.
