Tom Watson told me Royal County Down was the best course in the world. Your thoughts?

Think it’s certainly in the top 5-10.
Ultimately, it’s about personal preference and that usually is influenced by how you played that day.

Whistling Straits and Ko'Olau in Oahu were the two most memorable by far.
Hon. Mention: The courses in Scottsdale will always be memorable for me as well since I had never played desert golf before. TPC, Troon North, and Grayhawk Talon were the courses I played on that trip. I found the desert environment striking and very fun.

Hey Mike- did you see the new golfweek rankings for top 100 courses?
Bandon courses make up half the top ten and Old Mac is rated only lower than Pac! I was kinda shocked on that one.
As for me....
So many memorable ones. And lots of variables can make the course memorable (honeymoon, walking in the rain, playing well, who you're with etc.)
I'd say all the Bandon courses count as one just because I remember the whole of the experience. Pebble, Spyglass, Pasatiempo, Kapalua Plantation, Challenge at Menele on Lanai, Prince course on Kauai, Ross Bridge, Quintero, Seven Canyons, Pronghorn, Tetherow.
Golf is the best.

St. Andrews, for obvious reasons.

Did not see Golfweek. Sorry, no way is Old Mac better than Dunes or Trails. I usually only read GOLF Magazine. Their Top 100 in US has PAC (19), Trails (38), Dunes (44), Mac (66), and Sheep Ranch (80).
I'm with you, I kind of lump all of the courses into one "Bandon Experience." Best golf experience ever, except for my St. Andrews trip.

Sun Valley Golf Course. Robert Trent Jones, tad under 7000 yards and made Golf Digest Top 100 public courses ranking at 75. I've played amazing courses in Sun River, Oregon as well. There's a courose in Mount Vernon, WA called Eaglemont that had extreme elevation change with views of the Pacific and if I remember right Mount Baker from up in the hills. Best views from a golf course I've ever seen.
Playing Torrey South this fall so that will Trump everything. Any recommendations on coastal courses near Seattle or Portland? I'll be there in August as well. How far is Dunes from the airports?

Howel park. Pops hit a 4 iron through a cart full of Nelly thugs back in the day. Had to break out my 2 iron just in case as we traded ebonic slurs while hauling arse to the Tacoma. Good times. Unbeatable golf etiquette out there

Great Waters course at Reynolds Plantation just after it opened in the late 90s. For a country boy like myself, it was some tall cotton...
