This is my 2nd time to live in Las Vegas, and if you would have told me 8 years ago my first time living here that strip properties would be holding job fairs I would have laughed at you.

Jobs on the strip like bell, valet, hospitality and dealers historically have been nearly impossible to get without either knowing someone, or greasing the palms of those doing the hiring(known as juicing your way in) which consists of having to pay a lot of money for the job. These jobs have been extremely competitive, and everyone wants to work on the strip, so if you don't know someone or aren't willing to juice in, you have to work your way up by working at the non strip properties, gaining experience and hoping to eventually catch a break. I only was able to work at Planet Hollywood in 2012 as a valet driver because I knew 2 guys who I worked for at a hotel in the DFW area who were running that operation.

The fact these properties are having to resort to job fairs and on the spot hiring should truly let everyone know how bad the employment crisis is getting. I don't even know how all the fast food restaurants around here(all of which plastered with NOW HIRING signs) are making it.

This is the least surprising thing I’ve seen on this site today.

My Uber liberal lesbian boss was finally fired because it had been a year since she worked. They kept asking her to come back but she was too happy just sitting at home collecting UE doing nothing. She didn’t realize they could fire her after a year though, then predictably went to Facebook to say she got let go because there wasn’t enough work for her and how unfair it was.

She’s not my boss anymore so I was able to set the record straight for everyone on there feeling sorry for her.

How lucrative were these jobs that it was so hard or expensive to get that people don’t want that income now?

Heard on radio as I was running errands that McD's is now paying $50 just to show up for an interview.

Yet my brother-in-law is looking for a new job in Dallas that pays at least $55k and he can't find anything. He has a degree in Business and currently makes $50k, been there for 8 yrs and is ready for something new.

Almost like decent jobs are still hard to come by

Offer more money?

Vegas is a pretty sleazy disgusting place. Have they considered that?

Hotels across the country are going to be hurting this summer, mainly because recently they've relied on foreign work to fill a good percentage of positions in housekeeping and food services. Lots of Brazilians, Chinese, and Eastern Europeans coming here on work visas did those jobs. I don't think that's happening yet.

This entire cluster frick has shattered the idea of UBI being a viable option for this country. People have proven they are fine making a lot less and doing nothing that working to make more.

And yet the govt keeps giving out free money that keeps people from working. Amazing times.

The free market people should easily be able to recognize this worker shortage as what it is.

Supply and demand.

Demand for workers has now gone way up, the correction should be higher wages.

Been here almost 30 years. Not the first time strip casinos have had job fairs...and its ONE, the cosmo, that is having a job fair. I have seen multiple strip casinos do this at the same time. This is what happens when the strip casinos shite can everyone. When tourists come back, the cattle call goes out. Regular cycle for boom, bust towns.

I’ve often thought about dropping my corporate job and bartending or waiting tables in Vegas. Maybe if I was younger.

Being a dealer in Vegas in the 21st century sounds awful

You are basically a robot that is tracked with a NSA database while being paid tip wages

Who the hell was signing up for that

The joy that you would have had in the job say 30 years ago is sucked dry and turned to shite bean counter essentially.
