That sea wall must have been destroyed at some point, no?

Go on Google Maps Satellite. The dredge that did the recent beach replenishing is still pictured. You can see the setup.

Just South of the Golden Nugget is the equipment. To the East in the channel you can see the dark blue spot that they pulled the spoil from.

Thank you! I obviously knew it was a pump but wasn’t sure the method they used to get it from the gulf floor to the beachfront.

I wonder if there is any video of it in action.

Those pics don’t make Biloxi look half bad.

I lived 3/4 of a mile from the "beaches" on the Biloxi/Gulfport line for 7 years. Never once stepped foot on that "beach."

In the 70’s and 80’s bay St. Louis looked like this from time to time. Depending on how often they pumped sand and how quickly beach eroded.

I used to metal detect my arse off on those beaches. Early Monday mornings in the summer, dump trucks would drive on the beach and deliver clean, white sand. This was just when the casinos were getting going so maybe this was done around the casinos in Gulfport to top off the local sand and make it a more attractive destination.

Personally, I find Biloxi/Ocean Springs/Bay St. Louis beaches to be a GREAT day trip from the Baton Rouge area.

add two hours each way, and you're on johnson beach on perdido key. imo, it's worth the drive. or take the ferry out to ship island.

That's 7 to 8 hours round trip driving for a day trip. I'd be exhausted.
I do, however, prefer Florida beaches.

so 4 more hours in the car that could be spent on the beach.

Ah, yes. We always hike the famous gulf shores mountain range when we vacation there.

Nope. Sand fill from a short distance offshore was pumped directly in front of the seawall to create a beach (and in some places this has included ancillary activities, like parking lots and boat launches).

In many areas you can still see the old seawall, mostly covered up to the top few steps in sand, just south of present day US Hwy 90. You literally take a few steps on the old seawall down to the sand beach level. Here is a view taken right about where the OP photo was (close to the lighthouse) but looking the opposite direction:

Here is a shot at the Long Beach parking lot that show the top of the mostly buried old seawall more clearly:

Do they empty their septic tanks into the Gulf? I saw that happening in Cozumel while people were in the water. I will never go back to that shithole.
