The full story, according the only survivor and witness, is finally out on the Reelfoot Lake shooting in TN.
Outdoor Life Article
Still doesn’t quite make sense to me but the guy was very consistent with his story. Long but interesting read.

If he had dementia, it can cause you to do strange things. Murder is not something I’d associate with it but I guess he could have thought they were trespassing on what he thought was his blind and he became so agitated that he was going to settle it like he did. I can’t understand.

The Vowell guy suffered from dementia and had an episode and shot everyone up.

3 baws go duck hunting in a public blind during a rainstorm.
Another old baw comes along and asks to hunt with them.
The other baw hops in the blind and promptly shoots 1/3 baws. He somehow winds-up in the same boat as the 2/3 baws that are still alive.
Old baw grabs another shotgun and kills 2/3 baws, then tries to kill baw 3, but he grabs the gun from old baw and clocks him on the head with it, then rolls him out the boat.
Surviving baw tells cops what's up and old baws body is found a few days later
Family of old baw say it's strange as he was a cool baw, but had recently told his wife he had dementia, but not actually diagnosed, he just read about it on Google.
A whole bunch of baws had been meeting up at Sonic to check knuckles due to blind disputes in this area.
So, really, only the surviving baw knows the truth.

And there isn't a single reason the survivor didn't shoot the one considered to be the murderer if he was intending to kill him.
That's the wild part.

Had a friend is the family who developed dementia. Went from a calm old guy to extremely violent almost overnight. Started beating his wife and such. Something he would never have done with a right mind.

The survivor overpowered the killer and hit him tossing him out of the boat.
If the survivor was a liar, he could have simply murdered Vowell with a gun and tossed him.

Or...
There were no shells left in the shotgun, so he had to pound him over the head with it.
And he did kill him with the gun.
If he had shot him, then the pellets or drowning due to his injuries would have killed him.

Exactly what I thought.

If reread story pay attention of how big these blinds are. No one saw him shoot first guy. He took gun from him that was later found to have a hung shell or he may have kept firing. He was in the boat headed to launch bc they thought it was an accident. He picked up a boat gun left in boat to shoot cripple ducks and shot 2nd guy. 3rd guy was able to grab gun swing it and hit in his head and roll him out of boat. Lake is knee to thigh deep.

Damn. Not much of that makes sense from either side

The cripple duck gun that was left in the boat was left loaded or did the old man have the same size shells on him to load it?

Except for the whole footprint on shore part of the story. The old man made it to shore. He wasn't dead.

I'm not saying he killed him instantly. He could have crushed his head and then the old man died later.

Most likely pump gun with shells in tube that can pump and chamber a shell. Also almost all duck hunters 80-90% use 12 gauge so could have had shells in pocket or in box left in bottom of boat for cripples.

What about the snippet where the authorities smelled the propane from a ways off and found burnt paper towels in the grill? Are they suggesting the old man made it to the blind to warm up or is it the survivor trying to burn down the evidence? That’s an odd part of the story too
