That's exactly what a gx460 is. You don't want the lexus badge?
The Lexus front end is ugly to me.
Besides...you can get the 4Runner TRD with KDSS and even more off road hardware than the GX. The 4Runner also has CarPlay that the GX doesn’t have for some reason.
But the GX has a damn good V8 which is a huge selling point.

Look at that! You now need a ladder to get into those behemoths. It’s the Godzilla of soccer mom vehicles!

Toyota is so odd with what features you can get in certain vehicles. The 4Runner still doesn't have an automatic tailgate, even the Limited. Obviously no V8, which they used to offer.
You even see on the new 300 Series, they still have a static gauge cluster and a standard size moon roof. Those are technological advancements you can make to appeal to a customer base, while still making the vehicle as capable as possible.
Look at what GMC is doing with the AT4 line of the Yukon, for example. Great interior, but outfitting it to be more capable with electronic LSD, increased approach angle, underbody protection.

They're closely matched. But man have you priced TRDs lately. frick that. The only real additional offroad hardware on the 4Rs is the locking diff, which I've never needed but then again I just cruise around the ranch and don't go hit hardcore trails. And the new ones come with carplay finally. But the front end is subjective, it doesn't bother me personally.
As far as the V8, I enjoy the extra 20ish hp, but its a gas guzzler. It is bulletproof though.

The bigger news is that essentially tells you what the new Tundra frontends look like. You can cross-reference that with the masked images of the 2022 Tundras.

That is simply false. It is still a very capable offroad vehicle in stock form. It happens to also be comfortable.

Went through this earlier this year. I think the 4Runner TRD OR and TRD OR Premium are pretty good values considering the price of new cars these days.
I ended up buying a 4Runner TRD OR Premium with the metallic grey paint color. It has a lot of the Land Cruiser features - electronic locking diff, Active-Traction system, MTS, Crawl Control, and Toyota's KDSS suspension. It's actually got way more than the first 3-4 generations of 4Runner has had in that respect, so this is going to be a great off road truck as it ages and I become less squeamish about putting scratches in it. It tows about 5,000 lbs so it can handle a boat or party barge easily enough. The 4.0L V6 and 5 speed auto are the same components Toyota has used for 20 years now, and this variant uses a timing chain instead of a belt. I like that the 4x4 selector is mechanical and not an electronic switch. I do wish it had another 20 horsepower or so.
A new or used Land Cruiser would have been nice, but the idea of paying $60,000+ for a gently used model and still not have car play was kind of a non-starter for me. And I didn't want a 3rd row seat because my car would become the default "family vehicle" instead of my wife's car. If that was the kind of car I needed, I'd have probably gotten the new Tahoe Z71 or Yukon AT4 diesel. Maybe the Sequioa, Lexus GX, or 4Runner Limited.
I'm happy with my purchase and I'm glad I waited for the color I wanted. I can see why some people would go with the similar Lexus GX, but the lack of car play was a big problem for me there. I will probably buy an electric truck in 6-7 years, but even after that I will be hanging onto this 4Runner for as long as I can keep it running.
There's a strange beauty in a simple Japanese truck like this especially as they put on the miles. It's like a throwback to the 1990s when SUVs were actually cool.

Are they continuing the LX? I thought both the LX and Landcruiser were exiting the US market.

And also what engine options the Tundra will have. Turbo diesel or twin turbo V6 it looks like. I keep hearing rumors Tundra will also have a hybrid option.
I'm patiently waiting for the new Tundra to be released before I hit the truck market again. I hope the updates have been worth the wait.

Great vehicle, but damn that's ugly. I prefer the look before the last cosmetic change, its a shame the interior is circa 2003 in the last few years. Timing never worked out for me to own one, came close to the Lexus version a couple of times just because of availability, but never happened.

The LX is going to continue to be made and sold in the US. I expect we'll see a new one based on this platform. Toyota basically said that rather than sell 5000 LXs and 2000 LCs in the US they would rather just sell 7000 LXs because they're basically the same vehicle.

Love Toyotas but you’d think with asking price on all these new models they would stop going cheap on the interior. Every new Toyota feels like I’m getting into a 2009 time warp.

For it's increasingly bloated size yes. It's pretty clear that Toyota had Lexus buyers in mind with the last couple of generations though.
I think the off road variants of the 4Runner is the best basis for an overlanding rig with a Toyota badge right now. That's where Toyota will be steering the people that want a real Land Cruiser.

In 25 years these will be cool to get.

If they released a 3.3l diesel tundra in the US I'd be peeling out on my way to the stealerhsip to order one. Too bad it'll never happen.

I must be getting old but I just cannot see throwing down that much green for a fricking vehicle.

I have a 100 series with just over 100,000 miles I’ll sell you for 65k.
