Recommendations for Luling City market, Smitty's, and Kreuz BBQ?

I'm hitting up all 3 tomorrow on a little BBQ road trip. I've been to Kreuz and loved their brisket.
I'm planning on getting brisket at every location. I'm not going to be able to try everything on the menu at each place, so does anyone here have any recommendations for the best things to order?

I've been to City and loved the atmosphere. It's great. Cash only, it may be hard to miss the picture of Johnny Cash on the window informing you of cash only.
You walk into the cook room to order your meat and they place it on paper for you. Tell them if you want crackers, onions, pickles, etc. Then you can get sides separate outside the cook room in the main store.
Brisket was great, ribs were good, sausage was meh. The awesome thing about that place is you can order by the number of pieces. So get a couple pieces of brisket and 1 or 2 ribs to try them. Just tell them how many ribs you want. The sausage is in small ropes, so just get 1 to try, but if you don't want to fill up, it's not worth trying.
I got potato salad and beans, both were good but nothing you must try.
Smitty's and Kreuz are on my list still.

Damn...I hear good things about their sausage. It's all beef, which I'm a fan of. Is that just not your thing?

FWIW I loved the their sausage. Brisket was great also, did not get the ribs.

It was extremely plain tasting and had a soft texture, not very appealing to chew and absolutely no flavor. But try it out, it may have been just the piece I got. I have only had it once. I'd get it again to try, but I wouldn't order more than 1 piece myself.

The "Lockhart style" sausage is definitely different than your typical BBQ place. I can definitely see how it wouldn't be some peoples' preference.

Skip Kreuz and try Blacks.. brisket and beef rib are top notch. Smittys is good too. Luling City Market is not on Blacks level. Blacks is always consistently great. I have Kreuz several tries before I gave up.

Agree except I would go to both Blacks and Kreuz's.
I don't think Kreuz's has any sauce whatsoever in their joint. And that won't be a problem.

I went to Blacks about 10 years ago. It was ok. I was unimpressed with the brisket. Maybe I got a bad piece or it was just an off day. I love Terry Black's in Austin though.

Looks like the OP just needs to add a 4th place to the trip.

This is correct. I think Kreuz is the only one still cooking shoulder clod and I love it. It is the whole Chuck and weighs about 20-25 lbs. I cook one every now and then in my smoker.
But I love all of them. Black’s does big beef ribs that are really good.

I love City Markets beef sausage. My favorite in the whole state

Get a ring of sausage at each. Trust me.
Enjoy the fun and get plenty to take home for the rest of the week. Smith’s sometimes has prime rib and that’s really good. I like the ribs at Smittys also.

A handy fact when traveling, Luling city market opens very early in the morning. I've been in and out of there at 8:30am with literally no other customers in there yet.
Mon - Sat: 7:00 am - 6:00 pm
Sun: Closed
I second the shoulder clod at Kreutz and a sausage ring from each to compare. Also the rib from Blacks was damn good.

Shoulder clod is very good. I do several a year and prefer it to brisket.

I found the sauerkraut at Kreuz to be outstanding.
