Blacks BBQ in that area is my go to

Yup. Good sides and the big beef rib there is great.

Kreutz sucked the one time I went

Chisholm trail would be higher on my list

Thanks for all the recommendations

Here is my review:

City Market
I mistakenly got the lean brisket. I’m not a big fan of it so I’ll give them a pass. The ribs were pretty good. Sausage was awesome.

Kreuz
The moist brisket was very good. The shoulder clod was even better. Jalapeno sausage was spot on too.

Smitty’s
This was my favorite stop. The brisket was slightly better than Kreuz. The prime rib was very good and their ribs were also very good. I really liked the atmosphere inside this place.

All in all, it was a fun experience. All 3 places are good spots that I would visit again.

I enjoyed my trip there, like a step back in time

I don't think Kreuz's has any sauce whatsoever in their joint.

Mustard or salsa...salsa goes better with brisket than any sauce ever will.

Haven’t been back to the old building on since Kreuz moved down the road, as a kid my parents would stop here as we drove from Houston to Midland to see my grandparents.

The old brick pits, the sausage wrapped up in butcher paper with a sleeve of crackers, a glass bottle Big Red...good times.

Kreuz had no sauce or forks when I went there in 2009. I was surprised to find that they had both this time. I like to dip a few pieces of whatever in sauce from time to time, so no complaints here.
