If you have to go back to 1914 to find a different name for the franchise, then maybe name changes are unusual.
Here are the most recent name changes:
2008: Devil Rays became Rays
2005: Expos became Nationals (accompanied by a move)
1972: Senators became Rangers (accompanied by a move)
1970: Pilots became Brewers (accompanied by a move)
1961: Senators became Twins (accompanied by a move)
1959: Redlegs became Reds
1954: Reds became Redlegs
1954: Browns became Orioles (accompanied by a move)
So...if name changes are so common, can you find the most recent one that didn’t involve a relocation or a small alteration of the current name?

So you are saying the last one was in 08? Not sure why this is an issue. If a team was named the "Negros" would there be an issue? What if fans had afros as a head dress?

Lots of smoke. Word is there won't be a new name and they had to borrow money to stay afloat last year. WTF have they done with their revenue? The Tribe has had some success. Cheapest roster, too.
