ETSU Hoops Coach Jason Shay forced to resign

Shay resigns after one season as HC
Word around Johnson City is that he was forced to resign after his players kneeled for the anthem this season. Not a good look for the REDS

“After much consultation and deliberation, I have decided it is in the best interest of myself, my family and the ETSU men’s basketball program to no longer continue as the head basketball coach,” Shay said. “This past year has been extremely challenging for me in many different ways. It is the right time for a new challenge and an opportunity to reset my personal and professional goals.
To my players and staff, thank you for all of your hard work, dedication and belief in me and our program. Leaving you will be the most difficult part as I truly love each and every one of you. Thank you to Buc Nation for your continued support and cheers, your unwavering energy and enthusiasm is what makes ETSU such a special place. Johnson City has been home for the past six years, and our family will always hold a special place in our hearts for the community and support.”

Because they couldn’t fire the players

Wow. That ain’t gonna help recruiting. His first year there as head coach, correct?

Maybe the bigger issue is that people care that much about college basketball. None of this would be an issue if people just stopped worshipping sports and athletes.

He's been an assistant there for a little while, so he probably helped recruit a lot of the idiot players that ended up getting him fired.

Yes, it's the players fault and has nothing to do with a bunch of boomer REDS overreacting re: the anthem.

The players can go live and play in the N.B.A. Africa league if they hate the US so much.

Help me out. Who or what are the REDS?

Got to be more to it than that - there were high schools in rural Texas who knelt. And yes, it’s incredibly ignorant and selfish for these kids to kneel during our beautiful anthem, but it certainly shouldn’t cost even a high school coach his job (let alone a college coach).

Sounds like a lose - lose situation
If he told these idiots to stand for the anthem, he would have been burned at the stake by the national media and ETSU would cave and force him out anyway

Nope, boosters were threatening to withhold donations next year over it.

Those boosters sound kinda sensitive. To fire a coach over this is so fricking stupid lol

My favorite MLB team. Not sure what they have to do with getting this guy fired?

Booster: Now before I write you this $10,000 check, would it be OK to have the players stand for the national anthem?
Coach: Sorry can't do that.
Booster: Sorry I just got a cramp in my check writing hand.

Instead of firing the coach, release the players from their scholarship. Clown world we live in.
