I did see this in a SI article.

quote:

The Deshaun Watson that we thought we knew probably does not exist. We all need to commit to that reality and act accordingly. This includes the media, which has largely (though not entirely) tiptoed around the allegations. I suspect it is in part because Watson has spoken up about social justice issues, and he has fought to get away from a dysfunctional franchise, two causes that have endeared him to many in sports media. I don’t think people are giving him a pass for the assault allegations, but if you think most people in the media will go after him as hard and fast as we would go after, say, Curt Schilling, if he faced these kinds of allegations, you are fooling yourself.

I'm not sure about podcasts, but this story is all over the national media.

I think you have a false premise here.

Yeah, it's everywhere

also, podcasts are all about hot takes and opinions and discussion. They're supposed to be kinda fun.

what is there to discuss at this point? Did he do it or didn't he? are the accusers credible? Seems like a hotbed of shite I wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole

Lots of potential slander issues, too, depending on how things land.

I'd avoid this story like the plague if I was a major name in the podcasting world, at least until more facts come out.

I feel like this would definitely be front page news if it was Josh Allen or Tom Brady.

I think the lawyer’s reputation is what is holding this back a bit from making it more widespread.

The NFL is in the business of protecting its brand, not just blacks. It just so happen that racial issues are at the forefront. When domestic abuse was the top issue, nobody hesitated to trash Ray Rice or Adrian Peterson, the latter of which was a joke IMO.

The Deshaun case is interesting because the woke sports media loves the push for women’s equality and loves the push for anything achieved by a POC. My popcorn is ready.

Yah and I specified that I was talking about conversational podcasts that venture into pop culture and regularly have hour-plus shows. This Watson story was MADE for those types of podcasts. Bill Simmons couldn’t wait to take the woke stance and talk about the racial aspects of “The Bachelor” but he’s such a pussy that he’s waiting to see what it’s safe to say about this story before even dipping his toe in.

GM shuffle hasn’t mentioned it at all really. And Lombardi leans pretty hard left - he’s constantly raving about the Stanley Tucci show on CNN in which the host heaped platitudes on Che Guevara and far left activists that have frick all to do with food in Italy while constantly demonizing anti-migrant Italians
