Does Amazon force people to work for them?

So tired of this bullshite. Nobody forces you to work there. You choose to. You agree to the employer's terms by accepting the job.
Amazon Worker: "They can afford to do better"
Them being able to afford something is irrelevant. Every job has requirements, often physical. If it's too demanding, find another job. Damn, the constant desire to pull everything towards mediocrity is tiresome.
Amazon Worker: "They can afford to do better"
quote:
“Amazon brags it pays workers above the minimum wage,” Bates said. “What they don’t tell you is what those jobs are really like. And they certainly don’t tell you they can afford to do much better for the workers.”
Working at Amazon, she said, entails long shifts of grueling work at a “superfast” pace with constant monitoring. Limping employees deal with pain from perpetual motion between the building’s four floors. Two 30-minute breaks during a 10-hour shift are strictly timed, and elevators are marked for materials rather than employees. Workers are sometimes subjected to random security checks that eat up break times. Bates said after a few days, her sister, who later quit, told her, “It only gets worse.”
“They seem to think you are another machine,” she said. “If your computer isn’t scanning, you get charged with being time off task. From the onset, I learned if I worked too slow, or had too much time off task, I could be disciplined or even fired.”
Bates said Amazon should pay its workers a “living wage” with benefits that match living costs. Amazon touts that its workers start out earning more than $15 an hour. She also decried what she called the impersonal nature of management at the center, where employees are notified by text of work developments. She said this makes workers nervous about their job security.
“Why can’t a large and wealthy company do better for their workers?” she asked. “Amazon has made tons of money during the pandemic. Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the world, and now he’s even richer... Yet they expect us not to expect anything we didn’t already have before we started to work there.”

Depends on what they told you when you entered the country.

If i was Bezos i'd say, "you're absolutely right. You're fired". And hire someone who appreciates being employed.

Oh the horror. You could be fired for fricking off? What a revelation. Million dollars says she's a Democrat.

I don't think the woman testifying before the Senate fits that description.

Defending Amazon is peak conservatism.

The delusion by these people is astronomical

Well, there are only two categories of unhappy Amazon workers who think they're being forced to work there:
Immigrants and
Idiots
Guess that narrows it down, lol.

I defend the free market. That's it. Amazon happens to benefit greatly from it. More power to them.

What in the hell does the "free market" have to do with Amazon?
"I'm defending an abstraction by simping for a multi billionaire who hates my guts!"
Conservatism is forever off-target and on their heels. It's incredible.

Why are yall white knighting for Amazon?
They treat their people like shite and Bezos doesn't need some 40K millionaires defending his honor on a message board.

I agree, but also warning people and shedding a negative light on Amazon does diminish at least some peoples' opinion of them rather than being this benevolent provider of anything we could ever need.
We all bitch about our jobs at some point and we aren't required to stay there. This is no different.

It has everything to do with Amazon.

So don't work there. That's the entire point.

Labor is a commodity and laborers should be able to leverage it.

Hard to leverage it when they are massively bringing in cheap ones every day. Liberals are extremely stupid people.

Sounds like this person is interested in a union.

Well when you have an overabundance of unskilled workers it's hard to leverage anything. You have to bring true value to the picture.

They can also afford to automate your job and I'm sure it would be done better.

Nope. Conservatism Inc. really admires your dedication to this fantasy though. You've done a great service to those who use their resources to destroy your nation.

You have no leverage when literally anybody or even a robot could do your job.
