If completely closed, do you think the Bessemer, AL distribution facility will hurt Amazon very much? Or, if unionization spreads across the entire country?

How did the Unions do with Auto manufacturers? They closed majority of plants and opened them up in another country.

Explain the nuances then. Because it seems to be pretty cut and dry. Either you settle for the bottom or you don’t.

Not quite; For every one person that succeeds and "pulls themselves up by their bootstraps" there are many more that do not.

quote:

bullshite. The only thing stopping 99% of those in the US from doing better is themselves. Poor decisions were are your responsibility and you get to reap those consequences. The other 5% have mental or physical disabilities that add real hardship to their lives.

Link?

There are structural barriers in our society and a lot is determined by the zip code and/or family you are born into.

It's easy to scream at poor people to "work harder" when they are put behind the 8 ball from day one.

quote:

The world needs ditch diggers. There will always be a bottom rung to society because people will always choose poorly if given a chance. The individual doesn’t have to though.

And? We are talking higher level here; not your anecdote Andy stories of going from rags to riches.

It many people are being fricked and left behind, there is a problem with the system.

quote:

Freedom has to include the freedom to fail, to make poor decisions, to learn and grow or to choose not to learn and grow. We cannot just run people’s lives and force them to choose better.

Okay? Why does that excuse the warehouse conditions at Amazon?

Again, I cannot for the life of me understand why the $40K millionaire Andys in this thread are simping so damn hard for billionaire megacorps.

Cool story bruh. What the hell does that have to do with Amazon?

I dunno ChuckO, what do you think it has to do with Amazon when workers are complaining about working conditions at Amazon? Perhaps because they can quit and find something else whenever they want to.

Nobody should be simping for big unions either. They are ideological peers with Amazon and megacorp USA.

Why is it okay for companies to treat their workers like shite when they are making billions?

Because there is a large population of people who would be happy to do the job.

What you call “getting treated like shite” is viewed positively by people wanting those jobs.

While I do believe this plays a small part, a larger factor is the stupidity that the majority of the country is born with.

Read the bell curve. Idc about the race breakdown, but it’s a statistical fact that people with higher IQ’s, regardless of environment, make less bad decisions and are more successful in life.

The 80 IQ person shouldn’t be handed a cushy office job with a six figure salary just because it’s the right thing to do.

I defend the free market. That's it. Amazon happens to benefit greatly from it. More power to them.

Did you sleep through 2020? What was "free market" about 2020? And reality is, the "free market abortion" we have in the US didn't start in 2020.

Agreed. Serious countries deal with the realities at all levels of its societies, and not regurgitate cliches about rags to riches and bootstrapping as though this is a policy solution.

Liberals: We need to pay low-skill workers $15 an hour, so they can have a living wage!

Amazon: Sounds great, let's do it

Liberals: And they need benefits too!

Amazon: We good with that. Here you go.

Liberals: And they shouldn't have to be stressed at work, and forced to work hard!

Amazon: Wait, what?

Liberals: And we need unions to ensure that!

Amazon: GFY

I'm really tired about hearing how poorly low-skilled workers are treated. Go learn a damn trade. Stay in school. Etc.

Most of progressive Europe has poverty and working conditions far worse than what we have in the US.

Like I said in my original comment, I don’t care about the race aspect of Murray’s findings. The data he used to come to the conclusion of life outcomes among different IQ levels was done so from a study conducted by the US Department of Labor and the data included outcomes of non-Hispanic whites only.

Good try though.

It’s a free market if these workers are treated so bad then they would leave. They are free to find another job. If they want to be treated good then they should learn a skill. Democrats are importing cheap Labor through the southern border right now .
