Have we had one dedicated to this movie? I can watch it on infinite loop and can quote the entire movie. Everything is perfect down to the soundtrack. The cameos are fricking awesome from Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, John Candy.
Jake: “How often does the train go by?”
Elwood: “So often you won’t even notice.”
Elwood: “What kind of music do you usually have here?”
Waitress: “Oh we have both kinds! Country AND Western.”
Willie 'Too Big' Hall: “So, Jake, you're out, you're free, you're rehabilitated. What's next? What's happenin'? What you gonna do? You got the money you owe us, motherfricker?

The original version was 160 minutes but Universal forced John Landis to cut it down to 133 minutes so they could do more showings per day.
Universal eventually let Landis do a 148 minute extended cut that you can get on VUDU. It lengthens the musical performances, adds several more character moments, and gives some backstory on their car. If you really love the Blues Brothers I'd highly recommend getting the extended cut.

Hut hut hut hut hut hut
I've always loved you.
106 miles...etc..
But the best, IMHO, after 30 some odd viewings...."Use of unnecessary violence in the apprehension of the Blues Brothers has been approved."

John Lee Hooker, James Brown (!), Steven Spielberg, the Illinois Nazis, Frank Oz, Pee Wee Herman, and apparently Joe Walsh and Mr. T also make appearances.

It’s a perfect movie. Endlessly rewatchable and funny, it’s a time capsule of the early 80s while still being accessible for younger audiences.
“Hi! Wanna hand me the mic? Thanks a lot. Hi this is car, um, what number are we?”
“5-5”
“Car 55. Um, we’re in a truck hehehe”

"Its a 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, its dark and we're wearing sunglasses.......HIT IT!"
"They're not going to catch us.....we're on a mission from God."
"Illinois Nazis........I hate Illinois Nazis"
J: Well thank you pal, The day I get out of prison, my own brother picks me up in a police car.
E: You don't like it?
J: No I don't like it.
{Jumps drawbridge}
J: Cars got a lot of pickup.
E: Its got a cop motor, a four hundred and forty cubic inch plant. Its got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. Its a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What'da ya say? Is this the new Bluesmobile or what?
J: Fix the cigarette lighter.

One of my absolute favorite movies growing up that for some reason I have not seen in years. I need to remedy this

That film was a Ford LTD Crown Victoria death sentence.

I got to meet The Blues Brothers band in the early nineties when the played the Baton Rouge Blues fest. I got to introduce them on stage. I had a blues show at KLSU back then. Steve Cropper was awesome as was Matt Guitar Murphy and Blue Lou. I got Blue Lou to do a promo spot for my show and he put the Chicken Wire line in it. Donald Duck Dunn was an arse!

I'll always remember Blue Lou on SNL with Steve Martin, playing his solo on King Tut from inside an open sarcophagus.
He played at the River Center a few years ago, when he was touring with James Taylor.

Paul Schaeffer missed out on being in the Blues Brothers movie, because Lorne Michaels made him take the music director's job on Gilda Radner's Broadway show.
