For people born before 1992, how close was your hometown to a direct Soviet ICBM strike?

Purple is a 500 warhead strike scenario.
Black dot is 2000 warhead strike scenario.
Apparently, my small podunk hometown was ground zero for a strike.

Exactly where I'd want to be. Quick and over in an instant.

Born and raised in Huntsville. It was accepted that we would be fricked from day one.

Well looks like Little Rock was well covered.
Hell I probably wouldn’t even be here if the Titan II would’ve somehow blown up.

Direct hit in the 2000 warhead scenario. About 40 or 50 miles out in the 500 one.

If you’re gonna launch 500 nukes, what’s the harm with 1500 more?

Seems like a lot of unnecessary nukes.

I really thought Nevada had more silos than that? I would have thought there would be multiple targets for the Russians.

What are the targets under the big masses of black dots? Clusters of ICBM silos?
I know that North Dakota had them, less sure about Colorado / Wyoming / Nebraska border.
As far as the black dots go just above BR, I'm assuming that is Riverbend Nuclear.

The Exxon refinery in BR was always a major target.

What did Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, and Wyoming ever do to anyone?

You can tell where our missile silos are pretty easily on that map.

A 500 warhead attack target right over it and another 20 miles away.

We were directly downwind from Barksdale. Not close enough for any blast effect, but we would have gotten a big dose of fallout.

Do you see the easternmost county in Missouri? I'd say we were damn close. During the Cuban missile crises our schools were sandbagged and all of us had to get notes signed by our parents stating what to do in case of a nuclear attack - either stay at school or hot foot it home. I was to run to my grandparents' basement one-half block away.

No shite. Then, add in a nuclear plant and numerous chemical plants within spitting distance and we were properly fricked.
