The Saints have been the best team in the NFL for the past 4 years.

The playoff system rewards flukes and bad breaks; the consistency of wins and division titles is a much more accurate representation of a program.

I’ve come to realize the ever-expanding playoffs are a commercial money-grab and really not a good way to judge a team.

I hope y’all have enjoyed this era of dominance, because I think #9 has been the main reason for it.

I'd argue the last 2 the defense has been more important. Especially this last year.

But I see what you're saying

I hear you but as great as he was he isn't flawless.

it's a team game god dammit and that shouldn't get lost on here but i'll bet it does cause some on here can't appreciate team sports with a touch of random luck.

Depends. When half the league gets put in a single-elimination tournament, the regular season is a much better indicator of consistent success.

In terms of competitive advantage there’s something wrong with team A sweeping their division including two wins over Team B, who is able to eliminate Team A in one game.

Truth is Tampa didn’t belong in the playoffs but the league is going the opposite direction because $$$

Regular season = competition; postseason = entertainment

For a long time we sucked balls will 0 Lombardi's to show for it. Losing in the playoffs sucks but this way was better.

What’s delusional is thinking winning a flukey game against a team that pasted you twice should get you any accolades.

The Lombardi has become less and less of a meaningful measurement with each expansion of the playoffs.

And what sucks is that there are two solutions which would be shot down by either the owners or union: division champs only or best-of-three playoff series.

To be fair I agree with this completely. But I think there are two or three teams that I'd say have been better than the Saints the last few years

Right, I meant taking the “2017 draft class” era as a whole.

But really the only two teams that stand out are the 2017 Eagles and 2019 Chiefs, the latter of which is the only one I think was significantly better than any of the past 4 Saints teams

No the Saints won the most games in 4 years. The best teams won the Superbowls the past 4 years.

Ahhh yes. Because Marcus Williams ducking instead of making the tackle in 2017 in Minnesota was a delusion.

The two comically biased L.A. ref no calls in 2018 never happened I guess.

The refs literally running out of the Superdome instead of reviewing the Minnesota TE push-off OPI TD in 2019 was an illusion.

The Saints TE fumbling the ball away as the Saints were getting ready to take a double digit lead on TB in January was delusional I guess.

And the Saints having the best won-loss record of any team in the NFL over the last 4 years is a 'rumor' I guess.

Don’t know if bowls matter anymore but I’ve enjoyed the last 15 years and looking forward to the next season or next game where we knew we had a shot cause the QB was great. Can’t say that I ever felt that way about the Saints at any position for 37 years prior to that.

i agree with this in general

As for the last 4 years, KC, and NE with Brady were all pretty consistent, its not just flukes. GB made NFCCG 2 years in a row

This is 100% true, never more so than the basketball tournament that's about to start. But, everybody knows this going into the season. You do have to win a title to be the "best" team.

Were they the most consistent team from 17-20? Hell yeah. Should they/we be proud? Hell yeah. You need a little good fortune to win a title and it just never happened during this run.

I'd rather have Super Bowls, but winning in the regular beats the hell out of losing. The younger generation of Saints fans just doesn't understand how shitty it can be.

Drew chose $$$$ over rings. Blew the cap space to have good support.
