Bought my wife’s 10k cash money at the good ol age of 24. She hardly wears it anymore. Great thing to spend money on young fellas.

The misogyny on here is pathetic. Sorry, if you married someone who is materialistic, doesn’t work or have an education, and won’t sleep with you. A lot of women aren’t like that. Some of us are hard working, loving, thoughtful, and like being touched.

All of her friends the moment she gets engaged. They 100% judge the ring, whether they admit it or not.

There is no question the market for diamonds is a "scam" that said I bought an extravagant ring for my wife because that is what she wanted and it is to this day her favorite material possession in the world. We picked the stone out together and she designed the ring, it makes her happy and the rest is mainly irrelevant to me. She bought me a watch for our wedding and spent a similar amount of money, the watch makes me happy. As far as value the PP 5070 she bought me is worth more than she paid, her ring is worth less than I paid due to the manipulated market. The secondary market for diamonds is crap compared to the retail market. Again it makes her happy and that is all I care about, the amount of money I have spent on hobbies over the years leaves me no room to talk.

I love Ron White's take on the whole diamond industry when he was talking about the newest diamond company slogan.

"Buy her a diamond and render her speechless" and he decided it truly means "Buy her a diamond------that'll shut her up".

Seems about right. Paid about $3500 for my wife to be in 1991 and we got a deal from her cousin. Today’s dollars would be $7200 with inflation.

My wife is the gem, she bought a 35 dollar CZ off Amazon she proudly wears everyday. She can give a dissertation on the diamond engagement ring scam snd fixed price diamond market.

This makes a woman a target for muggers. Thieves are the people that are highly attentive to it.

I paid $1500. She loves it. If you’re dating a girl who demands an expensive ring, move on.

You people are overthinking the diamond part, it’s all about proposing. Give a her a surprise ring when you propose to her...it’s your choice what you give her, be it a diamond or an emerald or whatever...or don’t and just say hey you want get married over dinner.

The proposal is the ONLY thing a man is responsible for during the whole marriage process...but yea, do the absolute minimum and see how it works out.

The same ones who always have; women. It’s been that way as long as there’s been such a thing as a wedding ring.
