A shocking discovery out of a Baltimore City high school, where Project Baltimore has found hundreds of students are failing. It’s a school where a student who passed three classes in four years, ranks near the top half of his class with a 0.13 grade point average.

Tiffany France thought her son would receive his diploma this coming June. But after four years of high school, France just learned, her 17-year-old must start over. He’s been moved back to ninth grade.

This would be funny if it wasn't extremely sad. How in the hell did this woman not know how her son was doing in school.

Anyone who has seen The Wire shouldn’t be surprised at this... or anyone with any idea how inner city schools work. There is a reason Atlanta schools almost* lost accreditation for cheating 10+ years ago.

She probably thought everything was cool when the fricking school kept passing him to the next grade. How in the hell does this happen?

The article says the woman works three jobs, she might be too busy to handle the kids academics.

Needs to find a trade school. Finishing high school won’t happen after mom finds out she won’t be getting a government check monthly when he turns 18.

It's simple.

quote:

“Why would he do three more years in school? He didn't fail, the school failed him. The school failed at their job. They failed. They failed, that's the problem here. They failed. They failed. He didn't deserve that.”

A culture of complete lack of accountability.

Good Lord that lady. Kid was absent or tardy 272 times and it is the school's fault? This country is lost.

so, he moved from 9th to 10th
....then 10th to 11th
......then 11th to 12th

and now they say go back to the start??

There are sooooo many things wrong here, the shitty parenting is only part of it

well, he may not have deserved to have the truth and reality kept from him, but...he did fail

quote:

She thought her oldest son was doing well because even though he failed most of his classes, he was being promoted.

This makes a ton of sense. I wonder if the Baltimore School System failed Tiffany France too?

He’s been at a trade school his entire life.

It’s called the streets.

I'm on my third glass of a cheap Pinot Grigio, but if I'm truly comprehending what I'm reading here, there is not a f*cking thing funny about this AT ALL.

Well this is probably a clue as to what the problem is. I think the school has to intervene with these types of cases early on but there are issues with the parenting clearly to be so uninvolved to not know your child is failing....for four years.

“who would he turn to when the people that's supposed to help him is not?”

The mother literally said that shite. She’s too stupid to realize that’s her job. Her son has passed three classes in almost four years and she says that he is trying. The school system is shite, but her son is matching her effort as a mother... ZERO.
