The carnivore thread inspired me to share my weight problems of the past and what I did to lose weight.

Most of my adult life, I've struggled with weight issues. I've been on many many diets in the past and they've all worked, lost a lot of weight but I'd regain the weight quicker than it took to lose it. Why is that so? Because I refused to give up unhealthy eating habits whenever I'd get off a diet. A year and two months ago, I stepped on the scale at 220 lbs, standing at 5'7" that's not good. That's when I decided not to go on another diet, instead I started making adjustments to my daily diet. I eliminated all the junk including fast food and retrained my brain to eat healthy. Lean meat, fish, fruits and vegetables replaced the saturated fat content part of my daily intake. Three squares a day, no skipping, but smaller portions on each meal. I haven't had anything fried in over a year.

I went from 220 to 145 lbs in 7 - 8 months. Didn't count calories or carbohydrates, but I did keep up with saturated fat. I keep it around 15-20 grams per day. I'm now maintaining 145 lbs and that's something I've never done

Heartburn - gone
Sleep apnea - gone

I'm 59 yrs old and I'm proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks. Before I dropped my weight, I was very proud of my 11 year sobriety. Well I can add another accomplishment to the list.

Thats great.

There will be some fatass baws who think their "good base weight" is actually like 35 lbs higher than it should be.

145 lb is great for your height.

And depending on body comp, you can look 25 lbs "heavier" at 145 than 160 given your leanness and muscle mass.

Just have to do what works for you. I'm skinny and eat junk food - not very often but I don't eliminate it completely.

Key is to keep track of calories. And don't waste your calorie budget. If you can limit your beverages to water, unsweet tea, and black coffee it'll help. Potato chips are your worst enemy. High calories, no nutrition, and no satiation.

Yea I dont eat potato chips. I have also eliminated regular potatoes from my diet. I only eat sweet potatoes. Much better for you as far as getting leaky gut. Lectins are bad IMO

about 3 years ago, i stepped on the scale pushing 290 at 6'4". high cholesterol, high BP, high triglycerides, overall sluggish.

looked at my new born son and thought "i want to be around a long time for him."

Started eating the same things you mentioned. started crossfit (i know, i know) but im down to 232 and still making tweaks to get down to about 215.

man, being healthy is such a relief. just had a calcium score test done after seeing people talk about it on here. Came back at 0 thankfully.

this probably helps a lot. I can shed 10-15 lbs without changing a single thing except to stop drinking for a few weeks. But I fricking love whiskey.

Congrats for sure. Inspiring stuff. I have been displeased with my weight for a while (6'2 215ish), but it really hit me the other day when I took a video of my golf swing and could see the gut and love handles through my shirt. Time to do something.

I say the first step, and easiest step, is to stay away from fast food restaurants.
If you have eat out, choose sandwich shops.

That's a huge drop in that time frame. Congratulations on it.

Can you or anyone else add some specificity to this? Like what foods and how are they prepared?

Its much more a chore to eat healthy than it is to eat fast food, so any help is appreciated.

Giving up fried stuff was by far the hardest hurdle I had to cross. Initially that was tough but once I got going, it became easier to deal with it. Honey buns still torture me whenever I see them
