Hmmmmm, I wonder if maybe, just maybe, there's a pretty big difference between these cities and the vast majority of the cities in the State of Texas. Hmmmmm

Chicago and New York have people die when the temperatures reach 90 degrees
I specifically remember CBS explaining how rolling blackouts in Louisiana, Tennessee, and Mississippi on hot days in the 1990s were to keep up with demand for energy in the bigger northeastern cities.
I would be lying if that didn’t influence my politics. It’s 90 degrees and humid in the south. Why shut them down for 30 minutes because New York has a hot day?

Do those cities have a major ice storm every year? And I don’t mean snow storm/blizzard.

You lack critical thinking skills, bro. There's your key hint.

Well electric grids tend to be prepared for the 2nd largest state to be ENTIRELY in winter weather warnings.
It's obviously a VERY COMMON occurrence for several places to break record low temperatures at the same time.

quote:Ding ding! Heck, in NOLA, we do not have the infrastructure in place to handle a summer rain event. When FEMA funneled billions of dollars into LA after Katrina, I do not think a fraction was used as it was supposed to in order to repair/strengthen the infrastructure. {Rant off}
But to answer the OP, it's because buildings, roads, etc. are designed to withstand this type of weather, and there is infrastructure in place to handle major snowstorms

They ran out of money after all the studies.

Texas has 254 counties. With almost 30M people living there.
For the first time since keeping record all 254 counties got snow at the same time. A lot of power outages was probably caused by tree limbs falling on power lines, etc.
You comparing Texas to a city like Chicago that has 3M people. Think about that again.. You are comparing Texas... To Chicago, Boston, etc..
Chicago has one company that supplies the city with electricity.. I just googled it, its called ComEd. There are a lot of different companies that provide energy/utilities throughout Texas.
There should be a test everyone has to pass in order to post on the OT. Some of you simply lack basic common sense.
