I'm not paying $4/kwh for it either.

And neither are ratepayers anywhere in Texas. That's the ERCOT price a utility would pay for replacement power, if they loose capacity.

Well that's going to be the end of days scenario anyway, right?

I live within spitting distance of Texas. I have a wood stove that is blazing. No issues with power, but if I did, I have generators.

I am pretty sure that if Texas became their own country there would be multiple new LP or Nuke power plants built with the express idea of exporting electricity.

Their own country = their own regulations regarding the building on power plants

How would the rest of the 49 yahoos have helped Texas weather this storm any better?

Power hasn’t flickered once this winter. Probably have a foot of snow on the ground and been regularly experiencing windchills well below 0 for over 2 weeks here in IL. Texas isn’t built for this, but the Midwest handles it just fine.
I daresay that Texas handles 110 degrees and 95% humidity better than Illinois.

Our power doesn't go out during snowstorms in the winter. Our power lines are all buried though.

Sorry to hear it. But I'm up here where it is colder and SWEPCO still has power on.
Tonight will be the test.

Only one more easily offended than Texans is my wife - and she's a Latina/Arabian mix.

<---- has plenty of Texas family. It's just too easy.

What do they expect? They’d bitch if Texas spent extra money to prevent this because it happens once every decade. You can’t argue with them. They cancel people because they know they’re wrong and afraid they’ll be exposed.

this happened with them as a member of the US.

You think this would be worse with more money, and less regulation post-secession?

A large chunk of the state is under blizzard conditions.
Not exactly the norm.
We’ll weather the storm just fine.

And now some pics of my loves today in Houston :

WTF you rambling about? Because our governor asked for FEMA assistance? What are we to do, keep paying more to the feds than we get back and not ask for help just to prove a point?

That is stupid. Until we are independent there is no need to act like it. We could have handled this on our own, but why should we under the current situation?

No doubt.
We may as well get something for that $130 billion we send to DC each year.
