So what the hell was Bill Johnson doing then?

Coaching our Dlinemen as well as he coached Sedrick Ellis.

Seriously though, when they announced the hire I knew how bad he was going to be but somehow I also knew he would be here longer than he should.

And as for "the majority of our fanbase now [having] it out for Coach O", does he not deserve scrutiny for the fact that he hired the single worst power 5 DC in the country last year without even interviewing the guy? Seriously, I'd like to hear your answer: Does O deserve any criticism for that? Do you truly believe that there is no reason at all for our fanbase to distrust his instincts? Serious question. Let's hear what you have to say.

Yes, he legitimately deserves criticism for last season. And he says things in public that he shouldn’t. I don’t see how anyone can dispute that. However, it’s the insanely binary nature of this fanbase, tRant especially, that drives some of the more reasonable people here crazy.

The people who will be negative at all costs will take one quote without any actions based on it yet to back it up, and build an entire narrative out of it. And then you have the ardent fans of O who will admit nothing but the positive and shout them down. Back and forth they go, round and round but headed nowhere over a few off-season quotes.

Somewhere between the two extremes lies the real truth that most of this fanbase couldn’t care less about. O is far from perfect, but he isn’t the devil, either. Let’s just wait and see what his ACTIONS tell us this coming season and how his new hires work out. Then you guys will have all the ammo you need to complain or praise over something REAL. The endless melting one way or the other until then is pointless.

We definitely are.

But, to be fair, the quote didn't say O wanted to be more involved in the DL coaching. And, he said it at a time when he's introducing a very inexperienced hire for DC.

If there is anything I trust O about its Defensive fronts.

Yeah, and when I played in high school our HC was a former DL. Sometimes he would come over and supervise our individual drills, sometimes he didn’t. There was nothing weird about it.

It also sounds like you are okay with the piss poor product (mostly by the defense) that was fielded last season. Losing to Mississippi State and Missouri and getting blown out by a pretty bad Auburn team is what was truly embarrassing.

I understand that last season was crazy due to Covid and losing so much personnel from 2019. However, if we don't vastly improve in 2021, O most certainly deserves to be on the hot seat.

Because that's not what he said. He said "defense", not DL. He's qualified to meddle in the latter, not the former. Stop trying to spin this.

correct, and I give him credit for that. But was it because he's an elite coach that can consistently bring in the right talent and coaches? Or was it a one-off, stars-aligned situation due primarily to Burrow and Brady?

none of us are expecting O to continue with 15-0 seasons. But we certainly didn't expect, nor should we tolerate, the utter disaster that was 2020 and O's poor record on coaching hires (excluding Brady).

expecting LSU to be among the top teams in the country, given our elite recruiting isn't embarrassing at all. Embarrassing is tolerating 2020 by simply pointing backwards to 2019.

There are a group of posters, not real LSU fans, who got very silent after the championship, but they were simply waiting for the next opportunity before pouncing. It’s almost always personally demeaning comments toward CEO.

Yeah not sure why this upsets so many. He is supposedly a really good D line coach so not sure why anyone has an issue with him coaching the line.

Nope. Just tired of the "some people don't post when we win" line. It's bullshite It's equally as truthful as saying all the "positive" people didn't post most of last year. It's ridiculous and has zero basis in reality.

It's also ridiculous that people critical of the coach are somehow not fans of LSU

I could make a list of them. They disappear when the team is doing good, then come back and take personal shots at O.
