He was asked about the QB situation,.. first thing he said was they had Jameis for a year and really liked what they saw and really hyped him up. Don’t think he even mentioned Taysom or other possibilities

Taysom shouldn't be a possibility. He's a hell of an athlete, but he's just not a full time starting QB.

I think Payton sees an opportunity to get great value out of Winston similarly to how we did for Drew his first contract.

That’s because he didn’t play enough to throw 30 picks

Definitely read that as “Sean Payton in on GME”

He said "and we have Taysom in the building as well"

It got me thinking... if jameis is more controlled with his passing and decision making, doing those gimmick plays with taysom can be more dangerous when the quarterback standing near the sidelines has athletic ability.

Keeping Winston is the absolute most import thing the Saints can do this offseason.

But that happened all of one time, and his picks went up when Arians came in, like what’s happened with EVERY QB he’s ever had, even Brady.

yeah I mean if the Saints could run the ball the way they did this past year (attempts) it could really help with play action passes. And take pressure off of Jameis. If we failed in the run game we'd be toast though.

Arians demands that his QBs push the ball down field, even at their peril. Look at Brady’s INT numbers. Look at every QBs numbers under Arians. INTs always go up. Sean plays a lot more horizontal and loves working the seams more, which would be great for Winston.

I don’t know if he’s the answer, but dismissing him for the INT anomaly when it matches up with what happens to QBs under Arians seems foolish to me.

Repeating that Arians QBs INTs always go up is not an excuse for 30 INTs. He threw a bunch of picks and fumbled the ball a bunch before Arians got there

Saints in a good spot related to Jameis. If Payton really likes what he saw they can pony up and keep him. It’s also possible they are pumping him up so other teams may go after him while the saints have a different target.

Not really. Before then, his worst season for INTs was 28/18 on team with an awful line. Again, I’m not saying he’s the answer, but throwing for 5k yards, 33TDs, and seeing your INTs increase under Arians, with a shite line and 0 running game isn’t the same as if he did it behind our line with Sean and our running game.

And get a compensatory pick.

Especially when his seasons without Arians fall more in line with someone like Stafford and Ryan than that 30 Int year.

Folks better get used to the idea of Jameis. The Saints aren't going to spend draft capital for a QB that's going to eat up a chunk of the salary cap until Drew's contract drops off, if ever. There's a good chance they sign Jameis or maybe Teddy to a cheap 2 year contract.

The problem is that you’re only looking at raw numbers, while that 18 is bad the 14 INTs he threw in 2018 was worse because he only started 9 games and played in 2 more. He also fumbled 50 times in his 72 games in Tampa. I hope he improves and turns it around but it’s not as simple as blaming his OLine and coach for all of his turnovers.

Lol...I think it's funny Saints fans actually think winston will be a good qb after ragging on him his whole career for being a shitty qb

I agree with you 100%, but just dismissing him without having the weapons we have, and the offensive line we have, and the coaching staff we have is short sighted.

Besides, wtf are we gonna do? He’s the only QB on the roster and the cap situation isn’t going to allow us to be big time players for anyone out there.

The weapons and coaching staff in Tampa seem good to me, I plead ignorance on how good/bad heir OLine was.

Yea, he’s probably going to be our QB. Some people are going to be pissed off about, nothing you can say to them. Personally, I’m willing to give him a chance but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about it. I can absolutely see it being a disaster.

agree with that.

what i was saying you can't just be pass happy all the time.

a balanced attack is where it's at and we had that this year but just not a lot of down the field shots as its been well documented.
