Great news! LSU proposal for AAAS course requirement defeated

The proposal by AAAS faculty and supported by black student athletes at LSU was defeated yesterday in the Faculty Senate. An alternative proposal to create a study committee passed with strong support, at which point the AAAS faculty sponsors withdrew their proposal. They were clearly unhappy with the outcome. Here is the Reveille story on the Faculty Senate meeting:

It appears that reasonable, cooler heads prevailed, despite the support for the AAAS proposal by the LSU administration, which is a major part of the problem.

Why is there an entire AAAS department? Shouldn’t that just be in the social sciences department?

You cannot force or make mandatory for anyone to take a specific course
It falls under humanities which most disciplines require a humanities course, but it does not have to be that specific course.

But if it was in its proper place, you’d have one fewer AA department head, which is what really matters

I can learn all about the invention of peanut butter, the Underground Railroad, and flying pyramids in an afternoon on Wikipedia. Why should I be forced to take this class?

Finally something decent happened on this crappy earth.

This was the ultimate goal. Get extortion money for a "study" that will ultimately be used in the future to justify the very thing they just voted down. These people play the long game.

"We believe that anti-blackness is a problem in our society," Wiley said. "It is a problem in our university."
Can someone point to an example of what he is talking about here in regards to anti-blackness at LSU?

I would like to see what this AAAS was comprisee of.

“Anti-Blackness”
“Blackness”
These words are chosen because they have no established meaning.
There is no evidence that a class about “blackness” will improve race relations, or even understanding, and plenty of evidence that such classes would make things much worse.
And above all, they are a waste of valuable educational resources and time when there is a universe of knowledge to study.

Perhaps Wiley and others should stop looking at a person's skin color to divide. Why do so many people separate the people by color ?

The committee will be comprised of current LSU employees, students, and alums volunteering their time to assist on this topic.
Literally no cost to the University or public.
LSU employs thousands and there are a few hundred who quietly work above and beyond their roles on several campus committees for various topics/strategies

It’s only a matter of time before these SJW loons try and propagate another campaign like this.
