Two things...1) Saints first time hearing about this was this morning. 2) language in his contract signed this year specifically prevents him from going somewhere else and includes college ranks. A point Nielsen’s team disagrees with and clearly believed/believes otherwise

That’s what you got out of this?

Well at least Nielsen can fire his agent for allowing him to sign that contract.

So just like I said, Neilsen’s agent is the one who dropped the ball here, not us. That, or the Saints are trying to stretch something in his contract beyond the letter of the law. It’s not on O or the athletic dept as much as some of you miserable assholes want it to be.
Let them actually frick something up before we roast them this time.

I’m assuming by “prevents” she means enforces a buy out. I don’t see how you could get by using terminology actually preventing a coach from leaving.
I can’t find any details on his actual contract because the google results are muddied up by the recent news but I can’t imagine the buyout on an NFL position coach being prohibitively high if he’s who we want.

Bingo. This is them teaching Ed/Woodward a lesson. It will get ironed out in the end. It just may take some compensation.

theoretically, all they'd have to do is restrict him from being a football coach in a set number of parishes (of which EBR would be listed)
You also have to conduct your business therein.
The Saints do not play football in EBR and honestly there is 0 direct competition. I dont See a court upholding this.
The point is to stop your employees from hurting your business by competing directly with you. Not to prevent your employees from taking another job

Wonder if O actually talked to him before the last game and they are upset about that.

That is absolute bullshite. There is absolutely zero way that this is the first time the saints are hearing about this when every swinging dick in the state knew Nielsen was the top target 30 seconds after Freeman signed with Notre Dame.

Saints just being petty. Won't be good for hiring in the future for the Saints. LSU will either think it's worth it or not. Either way, Saints come out looking really bad. Nielson will either be LSU DC or a pissed off employee of the Saints. Don't see how that is good for anybody.

And a judge in Louisiana who will likely decide this, will agree with Nielsen.

Someone mentioned the AP article, but I don't think it was linked. Here it is: AP article
Says Nielsen agreed in principal but there are "contract details" to iron out.

This isn’t Payton blocking an interview. That’s completely different.
This is a contractual issue.

So what keeps him from saying, “screw it, I quit”?
Posted on 1/18/21 at 7:13 pm to Hmerly
Saints should remember LSU is Louisiana’s team. They are just guests.
Posted on 1/18/21 at 7:15 pm to Big4SALTbro
It would really look bad on the Saints to block this. Keeping one of your coaches from advancing his career and getting a sizable pay raise.

Bigger issue for the Saints is this isn’t a good look for potential new hires they need to hire right now.

Nothing but money. Which is why this really isn’t a problem for LSU.
It just paints the Saints in a really bad light.
