During that time we had a guy that hung out with us that was mixed. All 4 years of HS he would go half days on MLK day.

I like this.

My all white private school started observing MLK the first year they had a black teacher ever, or at least in my lifetime.

She'll never know it, but she earned us a day off 3 out of 4 years of my high school career.

I think Alabama and Mississippi still recognize it (for now).

Thanks, I knew Alabama did and thought more did as well. Say what you want, it takes some balls to do it present day. There's pretty much no arena where this would not get blown apart if the media really wanted to go after that. I'm sure it is in their hip pocket if they ever run out of other race grievances.

I remember when it used to be Presidents Day.

It wasn't. Presidents' Day is in February. We used to celebrate Lincoln's and Washington's birthday separately. Those were both in February, and we had no Federal holiday in January. MLK day prompted the switch to Presidents' Day.

Robert E. Lee's birthday was celebratec as Confederate Memorial Day. For a while in Alabama, State employees could choose to celebrate either MLK Day or Confederate Memorial Day, but they were the same day. Now it is just MLK day.

You should’ve told him that Robert E. Lee‘s birthday is Tuesday but we're celebrating it on Monday because the Feds prefer Monday holidays.

George Floyd day

We need to change the name of "Memorial Day" to George Floyd day. Saint George sadly passed away on Memorial day or right around that time

This is incorrect. Its still RELee/MLK day and confederate memorial day is in april and is a state holiday.

Wow. Hilarious! That’s a good one. Make sure you keep using examples like this to stereotype an entire group of people as being generally ignorant and uneducated! The world can use more of these call-outs to confirm more ignorant biases based on race that fit our narrow uneducated views.

Fortunately, the only thing these two have in common is that they both share the same alma mater.
