LSU 2019:
Played actual road games (hostile environments)
Beat a Clemson team that was on a 29 game winning streak and 14-0 on the season
15-0

Bama 2020:
Covid hits
Players all over opt out
Games are canceled and rescheduled
No fans
Defenses across cfb are down
Face a team that shouldn’t even have played in their conference title game and was only 7-0

Bama did what they had to do but I don’t see how you can put them over 2019 with how out of wack the 2020 season was.

2020 cannot realistically be compared to any other season ever played in an apples to apples way

I have zero problem calling this Bama team the most dominant champion in the CFP era, or even the BCS era. In a year where many teams slacked or simply couldn’t power through the COVID obstacles, Saban kept his already hungry team (bc of missing playoff last year) focused and performing at a level nobody else could sniff. I think teams performed at a lower level this year across the board bc they were missing players and couldn’t play/practice as much (which seems obvious), so in a simple “who would win” comparison I wouldn’t take 2020 Bama as the best, but I think they dominated the season more than any previous modern champions.

I estimate that their offense this year was (without Waddle) equal to LSU’s last year in terms of firepower, which is damn impressive. They were inarguably more efficient, but I think that’s largely because of COVID camp/practice restrictions disproportionately damaging defenses (offensive stats across CFB improved more this year than recent trend would’ve projected). 2019 LSU had a more experienced and talented defense than did 2020 Bama, so I’ll still consider them the “best” CFP champ for now.

I confess to not understanding the human compulsion to compare things that cannot be compared.

No doubt

They were still a dominant team and whoever was gonna emerge as champions in this difficult season deserves all the credit

Why is Ohio State only being 7-0 a talking point against Alabama

If we’re being honest, a healthy 2020 Bama would have been the best team on 2019 LSUs schedule. Both would be fully capable of beating the other

This is the difference between the LSU fans and Bama fans here. LSU fans enjoyed the hell out of 2019 for what it was, an amazing season that ended in a title. We will continue to enjoy that season until the next one.

Bama fans, on the other hand, have obsessively melted about one of their teams not being considered the best ever. It's not good enough that they have the greatest program that CFB has ever seen, they ached for that GOAT title for a single season as well.

We also had little to no crowd help during home games against 2 top-8 teams in Georgia and Texas A&M

Also here were LSUs road games last year excluding Alabama

8-5 Texas
3-9 Vandy
6-7 MSU
4-8 Ole Miss

fricking Road Warriors man

If that makes you sleep better at night.

Now, best program of the CFP era? No doubts there.

Let them, most are bandwagon fans anyway. I mean, what else is there in Alabama? A college football team is their greatest asset. Let that sink in.
