One guy paid a pizza guy 10k btc for a large cheese. With all the wasted btc, I have seen an estimate of 7-9 btc in actual circulation which drives price increases.

This number was early cryptocurrency days. Would love to see updated info.

It seems like the poor guy could get the password software, IronKey, to remove the 10 attempts limit for him.
Or, maybe the IronKey developer could deactivate the encryption/scrambling process if the 10 attempts are exceeded.
Offer IronKey developers $10 million if they can help him retrieve his bitcoins and I'm betting they can make it happen
This was my thought. Offer IronKey 1,000 BTC to figure it out. Better to have 6,000 BTC than nothing at all.

So he might lose "220 million" worth of Bitcoin, so basically he will lose a perfectly good hard drive and nothing else.

I would have placed that password in a safety deposit box at a bank or something. And in a tamper-proof safe at home. In a concrete and steel fortified chamber. Under ground. With a patio build on top of it. With a a spare key to that chamber in a separate box at a different bank in a different state. And another spare key inside a fire proof box inside my walls.
Just to be safe.
The fact that he just had it written down on a piece of paper makes him the dumbest mother fricker of all time.
It could have been worth next to nothing when he set them up in his wallet. This is true in hindsight, but it's hard to say what was the right way to handle it when he did it.
Well, it's not hard to say that writing it down and losing it was dumb, but there is a large space between that and putting it in Fort Knox.

I say this without being able to read the article, so if they mentioned a timeline and the value was significant when he transferred them, disregard all that.

I use to be annoyed with sites that required special characters in a password, but now im more annoyed with a site that DOESNT ALLOW them. Id rather just have one very complicated, universal password.
Its hard to remember that "oh yeah this site didnt allow punctuations"
I'd really like some standardization from password requirements, honestly I really like the biometric password bypasses, but I am not familiar with there security. I don't have anything that needs super high security anyway.

This literally happened to me about 7 years ago. Granted not with that many bitcoin but with enough for about 70-100k. All because when I was in high school I never thought BT would turn into what it is.
I feel his pain.

Eventually, if given enough time, won’t this happen with all Bitcoin since there is a finite amount?
