Right now? A drunk monkey could do the job of a teacher. You just read out of a couple books and/or pre-made lesson plan a bit, then tell the parents it's their job to make sure their kids complete all the assignments and turn them in.

Why even bother sending kids to public schools at this point? Parents are already for the most part homeschooling as it is.

Yet the taxes (and teacher and administrator salaries) all remain the same.....funny that.

Short answer yes. I teach Chemistry and Physics, which I have done for 30 years this year. Where do you think Engineers and others get their start, in college ?

The public school kids are just falling further and further behind. Private might go virtual as well, but they will do it better and for a shorter amount of time.

The archdiocese is leaving it up to each school. It will take a lot for it to happen. It’s not out of the realm of possibility though.

If they are in the Orleans system and not going to a magnet like Karr or Ben Franklin, they are probably fricked regardless.

New Orleans isn't about teaching, it is only about baby sitting

Here in BR my oldest child attends a school of 1200+ students. They have been in person 5 days a week since August. There have been NINE instances of positive COVID tests and ZERO deaths or serious issues.

The bottom line is that the people in charge of public policy in these cities have no desire whatsoever to end this ridiculousness.

Yet those privileged white kids in St. Tammany will not return to distance learning.

Why would they? They've pushed all the burden on to the parents and keep their same taxpayer funded salaries.

A quarter of the work for the same pay that will never, ever be in danger of being furloughed. Of course they'll fight tooth and nail against schools being fully open.

Its up to the individual schools.
Dominican high school has gone virtual. Brother Martin & Jesuit cancelled their basketball game.

Bingo. If they had to refund property taxes accordingly you would see schools wide open.
