re: Trevor Lawrence may really struggle in NFL

He looked terrible against LSU and Ohio State.
He didn’t light the world on fire last night but I don’t think he was close to terrible. Not sure what you expect any qb to do (that doesn’t have 4.3 speed) against a defense that is just completely running roughshod over your oline AND horrible play calling. Almost everyone of his throws was contested with guys in his face, very little separation by his receivers, and no real running game to speak off.
Contrast that to his opponent whose o line was just blowing open shipping lanes for the OSU rb, had the entire middle of the field open all night, and constantly had WRs behind the Clemson secondary.
OSU just whipped Clemson’s arse and I don’t think Lawrence was in a position to succeed regardless of his much potential he has. It looked like a Les Miles offense for a giant stretch of the first half and third quarter.

TL is going to be a bust. I'm not even sorry about it or wish him well because I can't stand him. I don't feel sorry for him either because he'll get paid handsomely for being a bust.
TL is going to go to the worst team in the NFL, get pressed into service early as the savior of the franchise when he's not ready, and fail miserably. We've all seen this story before when it comes to QBs that go to bad teams.

perhaps the NFL has stolen from college so much that a good OC/offense can develop a tools guy, and they're the new path. we will see
I’ve been wondering for a few weeks actually if Lawrence would really be considered “generational” at this point (even if he lives up to hype) with all the seemingly excellent young QBs that are in the NFL now. The marriage of these big mobile dudes and college concepts seems to be ushering in a really exciting period of quarterbacking in the league.

quote:Does that happen anymore? Seriously, Washington just dropped their first round QB pick after what, two years? That seems to be more the norm in the modern NFL, especially for high picks.
People act like QBs don't grow in the NFL and learn and are taught. Rodgers sat behind Favre for years

If we use your logic no one will be great. When you lose everybody try to pick you apart. Just last year I saw how everyone picked Justin Fields apart when they lost to Clemson. Now that Osu won and he played a great game he is awesome (which he may be). When Joe Burrow lost I think 3 games his first year starting for Lsu you could pick his faults apart. Then the next season they go undefeated and when the championship he is the best quarterback ever. The narrative changes for some people on every win and loss. You can loss a game and still be great. You can't win them all.

For his career, he has a passer rating of 118.6 when blitzed and 99.3 when under pressure. The latter figure is made even more ridiculous by the fact that he avoids sacks as well as any quarterback in college football, with only 44 sacks taken his entire college career.

So, you mean Aaron Rogers, and Patrick Mahommes? Terribly inaccurate right. And there are others. Take off the orange glasses.

Well.....

Lawrence is high floor, high ceiling.
The high floor piece makes him worth first overall pick. Look at the trash at QB in the league, having a pretty good QB is worth everything.
ETA
But I could definitely see him not being better than “pretty good”.

And in this thread, we see the normal "But muh-Burrow and muh-Brees" response by LSU fans when anyone breathes the name of another QB.

I don’t get why the Jags are giving up on Minshew
He’s a talented QB and could be even more with some pieces around him

I hope he sucks. Can't stand that dude.

Jags will still take him bc he’s the best qb on the board but I agree, they shouldn’t expect sunshine making the pro bowl

What is there to not like about TL? That’s fricking weird.

I don't need to explain myself to the likes of you!

People always get caught up in the measurable and from that standpoint yeah he’s the next manning. But just like luck who was anointed the next great one out of college, to me Trevor has some mental toughness deficiencies, as made evidence by so many turnovers in big games. Yeah he has all the tools but has Trevor Lawrence improved since the age of 18? As a true freshman he was an outstanding qb and led Clemson to a championship. Now 2 years later and I feel like I’m watching the exact same qb. Great potential great prospect great measurables, but either dabo did a horrible job developing him or what you see with Trevor is what you get. I wonder if he’s just a really good (not great) qb who peaked at an insanely young age (17-18)

I've been saying this for two years and I get clowned for it. If he goes to a steady franchise that has a track record of at least solid QBs, he will flourish. If he goes to a franchise that churns out busts, he will be a bust.
You get clowned for saying that bc that’s how the NFL works. Bad franchises stay bad bc they can’t develop QBs. You’re not exactly football Einstein

As much as I hate Clemson
I don’t have any issues with him
