Will be better when he doesn’t have an OC calling keepers and options for him.

Well yea. He’s a sensational college Qb. I would’ve loved to have had him at LSU.

I would’ve taken Johnny Manziel, Jamies Winston and Kellon Moore too.

Hell while we’re at it give me Colt Brennan and Matt Linehart.

Vince Young would’ve been awesome at LSU as well.

You getting the point yet or do I need to continue?

He’s been compared to Andrew luck as a generational qb.

I bookmarked this. Not to throw back at you later, but because I honestly don't see the hype.

When LSU played him last year, he wilted in that game too. Even when he had time to throw, he was off. And I don't think he saw much worse than he'll see behind, say, Jacksonville's O Line.

He had a great game against Alabama, and that was never a game where he was behind. I don't know if he's led comebacks offhand, but he just seems to feel the pressure of the moment whenever I watch him.
*Yeah, he rallied Clemson against Ohio State last year, with runs, not passes. You can't do that in the NFL. And he couldn't do it this year against the same Ohio State team.

And, I heard some talking heads saying he is going to be better than Joe Burrow. I laughed!

Great NFL QBs slide the pocket, work up, and extend plays. Not saying TL16 can't learn to do that but RIGHT NOW he is not nearly as polished as others who have made the transition. IMO he will be a good NFL QB but has lots of work to be a great one. Compare him right now to Burrow or Tua, or even Justin Hebert & he falls short IMO.
BTW, my football knowledge was not gained from radio talk shows or Madden.

Not sure if burrow is generational, but I’ve seen more from his mental game than Trevor. People easily forget, but I’ve talked to a lot of people who said they’ve never seen a college qb play like burrow did last year. These were unbiased people. The way he read the field and his decision making was unreal.

This is every QB, dumb arse. Some of you are fricking stupid. Lawrence is going to be just fine.

I could not agree more. Both Lawrence and Fields probably have much more athleticism than Burrow, but they don’t have cognitive recognition like he does. He is just so good at reading defense and taking what’s available. I watched two more draft busts tonight in Lawrence and Fields

Couple things to note on Lawrence and Clemson’s offense.

One, really pay attention to that offense and you’ll see he’s rarely making full reads. Clemson has a diverse running game which allows them to set up a variety of play action looks along with screens, swing passes, misdirection passes, etc that are largely predetermined as far as where he’s supposed to go with the ball. He usually just has to make the throw to whoever the play is designed for, or make half field reads. That will undoubtedly be a huge adjustment for him in the NFL. Justin Herbert ran a pretty rudimentary passing offense at Oregon, and to most people’s surprise has excelled right out the gate in the NFL, so it’s not a death sentence. But Herbert is also brilliant and ihe almost seems more comfortable with a more sophisticated scheme.

Two, Lawrence has a very long delivery which I think is why he struggles with accuracy when he doesn’t have a clean pocket. He’d be better off tightening things up a bit which I’m sure he’ll work on. Trent Dilfer touched on some of this stuff the last time he went on Russillo’s pod.

This is true of every QB ever

Look at the teams that upset the great 49er and Patriot dynasties in years they didn’t win titles. Go look at what happened to those great Buffalo offenses in 4 straight SBs.

The common denominator almost without fail was star QBs being pressured and hit more than they had at any other point that season. The best examples are the NFCCG when the Giants murdered Montana and the two Superbowls where the Giants killed Brady.

Even the greatest QBs start to come undone if you pressure and hit them enough.

A lot of his issues can be fixed.

Like when he's heavily pressured throwing off his back foot...the majority of which would all be picked in the NFL. So every NFL team is going to get rid of that from him.

He has the tools. People act like QBs don't grow in the NFL and learn and are taught. Rodgers sat behind Favre for years and teams didn't want him because he had that funky Tedford throwing position, stance and mechanics.

Well, he got rid of that in the NFL. Look at Rodgers in College and look at him in the Pros...his mechanics are all different.

Trevor has the tools that's all that matters. Is he polished like Burrow, no.

Does he often look a lot better because his receivers have a history of making amazing catches, yes.

But he can move outside the pocket and throw like Rodgers and has the arm strength.

He'll only be a bust if he goes to a shite-arse team that doesn't have any patience.

Same thing happens to Tom Brady.

sideline loser demeanor

What was this??

ANd then Dabo's coddling him on the sidelines like TL16 is an inconsolable 8 year old is really pitiful.

That seems like a good player/coach relationship.

Maybe Lawrence is a douche. Seems like Dabo is too. But what you listed isn’t what will make or break Lawrence.

I look at TL as someone with great physical tools, but the red flag is the mental fitness right now.

Don’t misunderstand—this is not a knock on him— but my big question is how can he handle the real struggles he will face on a subpar nfl team?

That capability is rarer than being a generational physical specimen.

He is the type of guy I believe that would flourish learning behind a Rivers or Brady for a year or two before taking the mantle and making his own mark.

But that is not going to happen.

Hopefully I am wrong, because I think he is a class kid.
