These guys aren’t getting hit at practice, you get touched on the shoulder and called down. Can’t fully see how mobile or elusive they are until game time honestly

Finley is more physically mature than Max. I think some of O’s concern with Max would have been similar to Brennan as a Fr basically that he could be broken in half by SEC defenders.

You seem to know this for a fact. Explain.

If by "arm talent" you mean "can throw far" then sure. But to me "arm talent" means throwing accurate, catchable balls with touch to several areas of the field. Finley throws AT his receivers and everything is always a missile and nothing is ever in stride. Max throws to where his receivers are going to be with touch, allowing opportunity for YAC.

I want the guy who can deal, not the one who can throw the length of a field.

It would explain so much.

I think the entire QB evaluation process at LSU has just been broken for the past decade +. Really since the Russell / Flynn days. Outside of two QB transfers (Mett and Burrow) LSU has been an epic failure at evaluating QBs and having them be successful on Saturdays. Brennan appears to be the only exception. You can’t say Johnson is an exception because it took Finley failing repeatedly before they gave the kid an opportunity to start.

I don’t know why, who, or what it is, but LSU needs to rectify it ASAP if they want to build another championship team. We can’t just hope we luck into another QB that was developed by another coach.

It’s easy to answer honestly. With all the shite Ryan Clark was lobbing at Coach O on Twitter over the players protest march, Finley being from Louisiana, and the threat of all the opt outs, he went with Finley hoping he could squash some of that. But it didn’t work out like he thought. Ensminger wanted Max to start Day One after Brennan went down and O overrode him. If you go back and watch the Missouri game, Max was the QB warming up to go in the game, when we still had a decent depth chart. We won the USCe game and O looks like a hero. Then he doesn’t. We lost 3 games because we were out coached. MS State and Mizzou we were clearly out coached from a defensive standpoint. A&M we played the wrong QB. Auburn and Bama we were simply outplayed. 3 of those games we should have won.

People love to hate on Ensminger but this dude had to play two true freshman QB’s throwing the ball to mostly freshman receivers with a terrible O line and the offense was still really good for most of the season.

I'm so sick of hearing this. Johnson is throwing darts, before receivers are breaking open, and in the rain no less. He can run, and he protects the ball, and this is all as a true freshman. But all I hear on this board is that Finley has more upside. He may, but I haven't seen anything to indicate that yet and I wish people would stop pointing to arm strength as the end all be all of the QB position. If we learned anything last year it's that you need an arm that is good enough, all the other stuff is what makes a great QB.

Think about TJ 1st game. Think about how our defense has looked all season. TJ probably lit our defense up in practice.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but think about the two that looked comfortable out there this season. One was a redshirt junior who’s trained with Brett Favre most of his career and the other’s dad was an NFL QB and has a super bowl ring. Are you sure it’s been LSU’s staff that has developed them?

Arm talent? TJ is another Brandon Harris. He can throw a long ball but he cannot throw in the flat of a crossing route at all. TJ’s pocket awareness is poor to say the least and he does not read defenses well at all. LSU has a freshman in Max who has led LSU very well in the Florida and Ole Miss games. Why some of you are trying to convince yourselves about Finley being some QB with potential makes me wonder what your true motivation actually is. Now with Nussmeyer coming in next season and Max being back along with Brennan I truly don’t see where Finley is going to fit into LSU’s plans at QB.

TJ got to campus sooner, knew the play book and looked better in practice. With a clean pocket he looks like a stud. He's got the ability to put the ball on the receiver with velocity before the CB can break on it.

There's no conspiracy. I thought Max would be more ready due to his pedigree and jump from his JR to SR season, but TJ did well for a true FR, but he needs a clean pocket. He still has a ton of upside if he sticks it out and keeps developing.

Max qb Iq and “moxy” so time speak is higher than TJ bc he had priv of being born to who his dad is.

Kid has been polished for prob 10 plus years from pro level experience and knowledge.

IMO this entire blm crap is BS.
Players play. They sweat, bleed, cry and rejoice together. Just bc we are all a bunch of racists doesn’t mean this team is.
Least that’s the way it was when I played ball and it was 50-50 race based team. Team superseded race.

I’d like to believe it’s that way at LSU.
