How important was Aranda in the assistant hc role?

I'm honestly not sure what that all entails or if it's just a title to get him more money
I can't help but think we would be a completely different team if he was still here just because of the defense alone

I'd argue we are 5-3 at worst if he is still here. Likely 6-2

It was akin to the Assistant to the Regional Manager at Dunder Miflin.
Aranda's job was being the DC. That's it

The title was irrelevant; his 130 plus IQ is sorely missed.

I think we are seeing what happens when O has complete unquestioned control of the program. Maybe Aranda provided checks and balances. Maybe Woodward kept a leash on things before last season. Orgeron's ego has always been his downfall.

All things being equal (for the sake of discussion) including Brennan's injury and the preseason opt out, I think LSU definitely beats MSU and Mizzou, and likely splits AU and A&M.
Hell, I'd argue that with just about any other mildly competent DC LSU is at least 5-3. The ridiculous desire for Ed to replicate the early/mid 2000's USC defense without the early/mid 2000's USC personnel or the early/mid 2000's style of play coupled with his decision to bring in a guy who hadn't coached against major competition in nearly 6 years was the spark that blew this whole thing up.
Ed is the guy who knows what he wants the finished product to look like, but doesn't really understand the intricacies of how to get there. That was evident when he first got the LSU job. With respect to the offense, at various times he said he wanted it to be a "pro-style" offense. While at others he said he wanted a "spread". Ultimately, what he wanted was the Bush/Linert offenses. He just wasn't clear what type of style that was considered

Wait. Are we still talking about the assistant head coach or the head coach position?

Now we are stuck with a coach with a 30 IQ

He was probably more influential than he should have needed to be.
In most situations this is simply for a title and pay bump, maybe to be more of an ear or sounding board to the HC directly.
In this case, he probably had most of the good ideas for the program. I wouldn't be surprised that as a "sounding board" he had a hand in more decisions and more direction than O. At least as much. We look like a completely different program this year. And this could have been part of it. O has no guidance, and no idea what to do.

I certainly can never blame him for taking advancements in his career through a HC job. But man do I miss him. I'd do anything to have him back on our sidelines.

Not at all. Aranada could not recruit. Aranda did not want Christian Harris. Whatever

Yea, clearly the remaining staff was able to pick up right where Aranda left off.

There was certainly no lack of defensive talent last year
Did you pay attention to the draft?

Just slightly worse than ours, but they aren't coming off a championship and they don't have a fourth year coach. What point do you think you make when you bring up something so irrelevant?
