OK, so what the hell do you want? People need to socialize with those they like and/or love. It prevents psychological damage that, at scale, is a very dangerous thing.

This virus is real, but a nation of unstable adults with guns and a huge black market is far worse.

Also, the biggest firestarter for addiction is lack of connection. Y'all ready for junkies?

Sweden is showing us that this hasn't worked either.

I'd rather default to the "hasn't worked either" that isn't destroying businesses and forcing people to wear useless pieces of cloth over their faces.

I agree that is the only way to stop this particular virus. But not every virus is the same. You wouldn’t say the same about Ebola.

On every single article on Twitter from every single local media outlet, the Covidiots immediately go to the "But people aren't wearing masks!!!!!" line.

This article may be just the "frick You" I need for those people.

I'm not fool enough to believe you can bring the infection rate to zero by wearing masks. That was never the intent. But there's no point in debating the effectiveness vs ineffectiveness of masks when a significant portion of the population is still hosting or attending superspreaders on a regular basis. Bars, restaurants, funerals, weddings, political rallies, and so forth, where people are likely to ignore social distancing and un-mask, completely negate any arguments against mask wearing based on rising numbers of infections. It's like someone drilling holes in a boat hull then saying bilge pumps are useless and ineffective. The entire premise of your argument is just like that boat hull. Full of holes.

Now, on the other hand, if you have enough people in that boat, that are willing to work for the common good, you can keep that boat afloat. All it takes is for everyone to stick their fingers in the holes. You will still get some water seeping in, but you will slow the leaks down enough so that the pump can keep up. Will anyone be inconvenienced? Absolutely! After all, you can't operate an iPhone when you have your fingers stuck in a hole. But at least no one drowns. Don't make the mistake of getting distracted by the politics or whatever. Wear the mask. Wash your hands. Social distance. Take the vaccine. It would be a shame to lose your life or the life of a loved one when the end of the war is so near.

We’re at a point where thought crimes can have grave personal repercussions. You will be censored, you can lose your job.

When do they start arresting us though, for thinking differently?

I do believe that if people were not loud and obnoxious getting into each others faces, etc., that would do a whole lot of good over masks. A quiet man is a healthy man.

How so?

ETA: Nevermind. I tried to use a simple analogy so people like you may be able to better grasp the concept, but obviously still way over your head.

Twenty-three percent don't wear masks. Many who wear masks don't cover their noses. People are stupid. Masks offer a measure of protection. Viral particles are encased in respiratory droplets that masks can block.

So it's a self reporting survey? I'm sure that is very accurate.

Masks have not reduced the spread of the virus in society.

They’ve been ineffective.

"We as Americans have been exceedingly patient and very polite as we have watched our leaders flail about incompetently in the face of this pandemic. We have tolerated their bait-and-switch proclamations and misguided attempts to buffalo us into stopping the spread of something that can’t be stopped, at a level that really they haven’t deserved from us"
