I’ve got a pile (many dozens) of those blue and red heavy duty oak pallets that I want to salvage the slats off of. I’m going to use them to panel a barn inside wall.

however I am not looking forward to a hammer and pry bar. Other option would be to sawzall thru the nails I guess. I’m seeing articulating pry heads on a handle that look promising but there’s not one at a store around here I can go look at

like this:

You don’t realize how rugged a pallet is until you try and pull a board off the top. Best of luck.

I used to work in a warehouse and I was a pro at breaking them with a pallet jack when I wasn’t supposed to.

I made one similar to that. They do work but if the pallets are oak you still have you work cut out for you.

I use the sawzall method and it’s pretty easy. There’s a specific Milwaukee blade I use that’s made for cutting metal and nails.

I have this one. You have to get a piece of pipe for the handle. CTS Welding

Yes. I have used one exactly like that. It works and is well worth it to buy one if you are breaking down a good amount of pallets. It takes a fraction of the time that using a prybar does.

yeah I’m going with the sawzall.
these things are brick houses...at the blocks there’s no chance the boards are coming off intact. And on all the slats the nails are bent over

Circular saw would probably be cleaner

Use a chainsaw. You'll be all day with a sawzall. If you are worried about rough ends, throw the boards on a chop saw after.

IMO, reciprocating saw is the way to go.

I may be wrong but I think he is using the sawzall to cut the nails trying to keep the boards as long as possible. At least thats what I tried to do before I had a bonfire.

I did my entire patio ceiling with pallet wood. I cannot tell you how many freaking pallets I dismantled. My best tool was a sawzall with long metal cutting blades. Get a bunch of them. That made short work of pallets. Never tired that pallet breaker, but the saw was the most successful.

I have no idea, but I have about 100 pallets needing to go. Anyone want em, come get em. A mix of good and bad
