Yes tattoos are frowned upon, but people don’t realize how secular a large portion of Israelis are usually. You have the ultra religious community and then a lot of “cultural Jews” that do whatever they feel like on Saturday.

To the post above, they almost certainly are Jewish, but not observant.

I was surprised how many americans were serving with the IDF. We rolled up to an airbase gate and this guy walks up and says "hey guys" in a perfect west coast accent. Turns out he was from California doing his two years with the IDF.

Was also an IDF Lieutenant Colonel that spent half his career as a US Army officer then got out and was commissioned with the IDF.
