Look, It's A Wonderful Life will forever be #1. The film is nearly 80 years old and it still hits you harder than any other Christmas season film. It's going nowhere.
But Christmas Vacation, probably due in no small part to every basic cable channel playing it on a loop for 2 months every year, seems to have risen firmly to #2.
Home Alone is basically its only contender I feel now, from a pop culture standpoint (also a John Hughes movie).
Elf, Ernest Saves Christmas, Love Actually, etc. are all still up there, but Christmas Vacation seems like the prince of this genre now.

No, it's the best. It is timeless and perfect in every way.

Based on TV showings and watchability for children, I would say A Christmas Story is #2 and Christmas Vacation at #3

Top 4 Christmas Films are easily:
It's a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Vacation
Home Alone
A Christmas Story
How The Grinch Stole Christmas (Dr. Seuss Animation version) is probably right behind.
They cover all of the bases except for a fantastical Santa story. Not sure if Elf or Santa Claus would be the best of those.

It’s a wonderful life is a drag. I’ll watch every year and every year I’ll check to see how much longer.

Watched Christmas Vacation on Turkeyday. Hadn't seen it in years... great stuff. So much little stuff I had forgotten...

It is the best comedy Christmas movie of all time. But other Christmas movies are better such as the original Christmas Carol.

Personally, I'd have to have a version of "A Christmas Carol" at the top of my list. There are so many (from Alistair Sim to Mr. Magoo to George C. Scott to Patrick Stewart--even Bill Murray's "Scrooged") that I'll just lump them all together as up there with "Wonderful Life" and "Vacation".

Yup. Bad Santa eclipses all of those imo

I would put the original a Christmas Carol right behind it's a wonderful life.
Those two are the best because of the stories they tell and how it relates to real life.

As a Christmas comedy it is in the top five.

Yes, right behind Die Hard.
