I would say that most on this board concur. That is except for the trial lawyers on this board which I'm sure are plentiful.

Thank Morris Bart and the lawyer on the 18 wheeler. And, while you’re at it be a mindless dipshit like most voters and continue to vote for plaintiff lawyers to represent you in the legislature.
Jon Bel Edwards recently enacted tort reform in Louisiana. I wonder if the shite drivers, crumbling infrastructure, and pothole filled roads have any reason to do with the high rates?

The myth of hitting 18 and the rates going down is just that; a myth.

For what you're paying for the car plus insurance each month you can pretty much Uber them anywhere they want to go, at least locally

I pay over $600 and have never made a claim. Such is parenthood. And only one of my children hates me and hopes I die in a fire.

$350 a month. WTF?

Geico app
I went through this absolute exact same scenario with the exception being it was a new Honda Civic. Anyhow I switched to Progressive. Their quote came in over $1000 less for 6 months. They were only ones who were who beat the price and I checked quite a few. I called Geico to see if they would match or come close since we had been with them for over 10 years and the lady told me we should switch to Progressive but to try them back of Progressive goes up in rates at renewal. Just went through renewal and no increase so we are with Progressive now. Get a quote from Progressive.

idrivesafely.com has some good info and it looks like the 2014 and newer Rav4 is a good choice...appears to be about safety and safety features...

5 Great Used Cars for Teens...The following five used cars are highly rated, budget-friendly and include important safety features, often as standard equipment. In other words, they are great options for teen drivers.
2014 and Newer Honda Accord The Honda Accord is a classic sedan with a huge following. The 2014 model includes a rearview camera and right-side blind spot camera as standard features. Lane departure and forward collision warning systems are optional. You can find 2014 and newer Honda Accords for as low as $10,000.
2014 and Newer Ford Fusion Hybrid If efficiency is important in your family the Ford Fusion Hybrid is a great option. Not only does it get great mileage, the Ford Fusion also features airbags and available inflatable seat belts. You can find models for just $7,000, but at that price the vehicle will have 100,000+ miles on the odometer.
2013 and Newer Volkswagen GTI The Volkswagen GTI features precise steering and handling — important features for teen drivers. Six-speed manual transmission is standard; an automatic transmission is optional. You can expect to pay around $8,000-$10,000 for a 2013 Volkswagen GTI.
2014 and Newer Mazda CX3 The Mazda CX3 features available blind-spot monitoring, a rearview camera and forward-collision warning. You can find a used Mazda CX3 with less than 100,000 miles for around $9,000-$10,000.
2016 and Newer Toyota Rav4 Crossover If your teen has their heart set on a compact SUV the Rav4 Crossover is an excellent choice. It features available all-wheel drive, which is very desirable for rough terrain or inclement weather, has a number of standard safety features and is a great value compared to other vehicles in the class. You can get an accident-free 2016 Toyota Rav4 between $13,000-$14,000.

The guy or gal talking about liability is right on it...teen drivers are bad and are mostly going to get into wrecks and then chances of someone else other than your kid getting hurt or killed goes up as well.

Have read entire thread yet, but what state do you live in? I’m an insurance agency owner in Louisiana and there are some strategies that could help you on your premium. Just let me know if you would like to hear more.

I write insurance in Mississippi and Louisiana and the difference in how much people pay in LA vs MS would make everyone in LA sick to their stomach.

I pay 547/mo on 4 vehicles with one being a 2000 mustang for my 16 yo daughter.

Should have got her 15 year old beater with liability. Doubt you'll find insurance any cheaper.
Bought my 16 year old son an 18 year old truck this year and put insurance on it before he had his license. It's like $60 a month for liability and uninsured motorist. I called my agent when the boy turned 16 and he said not to worry about it.
