We always have broccoli casserole.
Never have green beans at Thanksgiving for some reason.

Completely hijacking this thread but it is Thanksgiving related. What are you gump's restrictions like right now? Haven't been to the in laws since Covid started. Birmingham metro but outside of the city.

Basically none. Even in Birmingham proper, it's only nominal. No one gives a shite.

I was actually making them when this thread got started. Just put the last batch in the oven. Made about a 100 this go around. They are a tradition in my family that we do basically when hunting season starts until it ends.
They are a great appetizer to munch on while thanksgiving dinner is being made. They are awesome for a super quick breakfast. Pop some in the microwave for about 15-20 seconds, and pour some syrup over them..

Maybe? It might even be a Tennessee Valley thing. All I know is that I've been eating them all my life.

Either way, I'm excited to get in on it!

1. Pound of HOT breakfast sausage (I use the cheapest, extra fat make them more moist) 2. 8 ounce pack of shredded cheddar cheese 3. About 1 cup of bisquick. Maybe a hair more. But no more than 1.5 cups. 4. Half a block of cream cheese (optional, but I think it makes them better). 5. 1 Diced jalapeno (optional) Mix it all together well, roll into quarter sized balls. Bake for about 18-22 minutes at 350 if thaw. 20-25 if frozen.
This is basically the way I make them. Sometimes I'll add red pepper flakes, and diced up green onions. My daughter loves them that way, but she goes nuts when I wrap the mix around a small chunk of cheese.

My grandmother made Kraut balls.
It was sausage balls with sour kraut & cream cheese in them, battered and pan fried. That shite was good!!!

I don't know, I'm from the Tennesee Valley too, so it may be a TV thing. Everyone around here knows what they are though.
My mom made them for me as a kid for breakfast in winter. Easy to pop in the oven on school days.

Not forgotten or little known but my wife makes her cranberry sauce with orange zest and it's amazing.

My in-laws do those sausage balls. They’re dry and disgusting.

Mixing this right now. Used a whole block of cream cheese though. Didn’t pay attention. We shall see what difference it makes. Thanks
