It's too soon to gauge COVID against the 2008 recession IMO.

9/11 changed geopolitics for at least a couple of decades, impacted the American psyche and cost us thousands of lives, resulted in thousands of deaths abroad and trillions in treasure.

I don't think it belittles PH to acknowledge we were going to get into the war sooner rather than later regardless.

9/11
Great Depression
PH
COVID/2008
JFK
Katrina

If that’s the case than the flu should be listed in there as the 2nd biggest event in our history

ETA: Assuming you’re talking about death count, if not, then my bad

I would personally put Katrina higher, but that's mainly because I was in high school in NOLA at the time. Doubt it hit the rest of the nation that much

Great Depression (w/o this Nazis never gain power, WW2 becomes a smaller conflict)
Pearl Harbor (w/o this America never formally enters WW2, changing how long it drags on and plays out.)
9/11 (huge government power gains)
JFK (huge government power gains)
COVID (possibly leading to huge government power gain)
Recession (bad, but bounced back a decade later)
Katrina (regional issue, sorry guys)

ETA: COVID is still playing out. If the "Great Reset" actually comes to fruition it will zoom up to the top.

not even thinking about the death count because no once can believe the info we are being fed.

but, the fallout will likely be worse than most if not all of the others.

most of those were more localized.

Tier 1 (Instigated/changed the global course of events thereafter for multiple decades)
Great Depression
9/11
2020 COVID-19 Pandemic

Tier 2 (Significant, but was more of a symptom of events that had already taken place)
Pearl Harbor
Great Recession of 2008

Tier 3: (Impactful to Americans, but other than a note in history class, not really relevant globally)
Hurricane Katrina
JFK Assassination

Makes sense, good point. Without looking it up I’m not sure how long the Great Depression impacted the nation but between COVID and GD national impact I can see those being at the top. Granted 9/11 got us into foreign wars for 2 decades.
