They get enormous in the AL mountains. As scary as a grizzly if you stumble onto one close enough to hear the rattle.

I'll kill a venomous snake if I see it in my yard but I leave the rest alone.
I grew up around snakes and they don't bother me that much.

My dad, for whatever reason, always used a shovel to kill venomous snakes near the house. But he wouldn't cut the head clean off with the sharp edge. He'd pop the poor bastards with the flat side until birdies were spinning around their head like a Tweety cartoon
