I took $20 out of my mom's purse once. Punked me so bad my dad didn't even whip my arse. A good smack across my face and then kept hitting me across the top of my head and neck as I was covering up.

Also wasn't allowed to eat what she cooked every night for a bit. I had the choice of making myself a ham and cheese roll up, a bowl of cereal, or a peanut butter and jelly.

Learned my lesson.

In 1968, when I was nine, my dad would have torn my arse up with one of his skinny belts. He had two or three about the width of your thumb hanging on the inside doorknob of his closet. Never wore them, just whipped my brothers and I with them. He would have also grounded me, and made me do some kind of extra work around the house to "pay" the amount off.

I don't remember ever stealing anything from him until I was in college. There were some times I called my mom for money to help pay for auto repairs and never paid them back. They really never expected that payback, and didn't mind because they never had to pay for my tuition. She would tell me not to worry about paying them back, even though I'd call saying that was my intention. If I'd have been able to pay them back in a reasonable amount of time, I would have.

The worst thing I did as a kid was lie to him. He always said that was as bad as stealing. Got a bunch of whipping for that.

The lesson here being to not tell the parents when his brother is doing something detrimental to his character development?! Shite lesson

Why would you spank or punish your child for telling you your other child was an a-hole? They’ll never tell you anything again. You want your child to be comfortable talking to you about anything.

I see theft of $100 and electronics in your thread.

I’d take his electronics away for a LONG fricking time. I’d assume he took the money for games or “skins” or battle packs and passes. My son is 10. Older kids will offer to sell their old profiles they’ve stopped using. Just willing to bet this is gamer related.

Taking my sons PlayStation away would devastate him. Much more than any arse whipping I’d be willing to dish out.

frick off dude. Seriously.

Some of the most important life lessons that I ever learned were from my dad's belt. And I bet a lot of posters who are near my age or older will readily agree (late 40's and older).

Just because you don't agree with how something is done doesn't make it wrong.

In this specific case, I agree. Theft shouldn't be taken lightly.

But it really really bothers me when one of my sons snitches on the other one for stupid kids stuff. Like shite, you guys are supposed to be teaming up. They're always coming to tell me whwbat the other did, unsolicited.

And so far I haven't found a way to tell them, I'm not really ok with that, without breaking some other principles that I'm trying to teach them. They're 5&3, so I'm not sure they'd understand the nuances.

Spank the Sharklife out of the one and the cheese eating rat out of the other. What the hell kind of house are you running that you even have to ask, my man?

Another Chapter from "Growing Up Füt":

I'm around age 12.

The old man told me to clean up my room.

I went fishing and then played some hoops with the other hood rats and whatever else....

When I got back home that evening, he had the old pup tent and sleeping bag downstairs by the patio door.

Guess who spent the night outside that night?

Next time he told me to clean my room was never.

I would have drug the baw to his room and put ever living fear into his life. I would tell him how stealing will make him turn into a shithead and won't ever be successful if that's his behavior.
