And that’s after he stopped the clock for the Bears right before OT just to complain to the refs.

The refs deserved it for that abortion of a call.

he can be incredibly arrogant in situational football.

This is his 15th season as a head coach with multiple instances each season indicating he has no clue how to manage the clock. The corpus suggests it is a lack of knowledge, not arrogance.

It was dumb. What’s it hurt doing a Brees QB sneak?

Lutz had missed a chip shot earlier.

Think about the confidence Sean just gave to his kicker. He had zero doubt that Lutz would miss it and basically said, “go win this mother fricker son!”

Sends a mental message to Lutz. We know you will win us games. And the saints will need Lutz to be perfect this year.

Spot on? That's a really dumb way to look at it. They drain the clock all the time before trying game winning FGs. Kickers don't go crying to their moms when that happens. And Lutz is one of the best kickers in the nfl. The confidence crap is something people are making up to justify the decision

Lutz is a grown fricking man and the best kicker in football. He doesn’t need his coach making awful time management decisions in order to give him confidence

These are professional athletes. He needs his confidence boosted? He is a kicker...guess this makes sense in a participation trophy world.

Maybe he was thinking if he misses the FG, Chicago gets the ball back. After 2 incompletions and a sack, the Saints get the ball back and a second chance to go downfield to kick a FG.

It wouldn't surprise me if he thought that. He is arrogant.

Arrogance no, confidence yes. What you said is exactly why he did it.

Sean played 4d chess by kicking with 1:40 left, and its still above posters heads a day later.

Remember when his 4D chess cost the Saints a Super Bowl birth vs the Rams? I member.

This logic is great for a Disney sports movie

Pretty dumb for real life

Forget overtime, the idiot called timeout to yell at the refs because he was hot about the fumble being ruled forward progress. Saved them a timeout and time at the end to kick the field. Otherwise it would have expired and they wouldn't have been in range.

frick that, he gains confidence by making the kick, not the timing of it. You don’t risk losing and all the work the rest of the team did to toss a token vote of confidence to the kicker.

Sean has always been cocky like that, it’s just proven to go his way more than it hasn’t in his career. Really not a big deal with Lutz being our kicker. I would have liked to see them kneel it but oh well
