Weird considering the LA television market and not winning a World Series in 32 years. I know TB isn’t the most exciting brand and television market, but those ratings are awfully low considering how weird and bad of a year 2020 is.
I think the ridiculous drawn out negotiation process, the shortened season, so many games being in the middle of the day (even playoff games), etc resulted in people flat out losing interest. I don't watch a ton of regular season MLB baseball but personally love the playoffs. I barely watched any of it this year either and didn't end up watching a single game of the WS. Not going to lie, the lack of a postseason crowd was weird and made it tough to get into the parts of games I did watch.

Sports seem to have peaked from a TV spectating standpoint.
Well streaming over the last ten years has forced the traditional ratings downward. But politics, tons of ads, and fans’ lack of attention spans are all factors.

Tampa being involved in 2 of the lowest rated WS ever isn't a coincidence.

I’ve never met a Rays fan in my life
In fact, a coworker lives in Tampa and I asked him last week about the WS and he said “oh yeah that’s right, isn’t Tampa in it?”

40 million people watched the Cubs win the game 7 a few years ago. 30 + million less people just 4 years later.
The Cavs Warriors game 7 in 2016 drew 31 million.
Ending a curse will draw viewers who don't watch otherwise.

Living in the Tampa Bay Area, it really seemed like more people were excited about the Lightning winning the Stanley Cup than the Rays being in the World Series. Weirdly enough, this is a southern hockey town.
The Lightning have been a little more consistent in terms of winning.
The Rays have had a few great years sprinkled amongst some really crappy seasons
Where do the Lightning play? Are they in St. Pete like the Rays? That could play into it as well

Because nobody wants to watch this fake crowd noise, cardboard cutout fans bullshite
There were real fans in the stands (albeit nowhere near capacity) for all the mlb playoff games in Texas.
At least mlb games were played in regular stadiums, unlike the pick up environment of the nba bubble.

LA isn’t an nfl and college sports town (aside from when usc football is good).
However, the Lakers and dodgers are as popular as any American franchises not named the Yankees.

When I think playoff baseball, I think Pittsburgh fans being so loud that they scared the ball out of Johnny Cueto's hand...
Not this phony bullshite they handed us this year

Didn’t watch a second of the World Series when it was live. Didn’t care for either team or MLB in general.

I think those ratings are mostly all L.A. - so it's not bad.
I'd venture a guess many people out here didn't even know there WAS a world series. Every night after the winning fireworks, people were on Nextdoor asking why all the fireworks, their dogs are being scared, you might wake up the kids.
Bunch whiny asses everywhere these days.

Didn't the braves and Dodgers get more?
Could just be Tampa.

Watching a rookie Wacha pitch there in the 2013 NLDS gave me goosebumps. That fanbase deserves a winner.

pro sports are just boring to watch.
college football is about the only thing i'm interested in at this point, along with a couple of international soccer tournaments.
and crowds matter. the game just doesn't feel right when limited amounts of fans are allowed in.
