At Istrouma now. This is one of the better breweries, atmosphere wise. It’s up there with bayou teche (minus the live Cajun music).
Only had one so far, the bourbon barrel dark. It’s not my style, personally but well made.

So, had 4 of their beers last night
Bourbon barrel dark ale - boozy. Not really my style but not terribly made
Lena Lai - mango kettle sour. This was really good.
Marionberry honey ale - this was also boozy. They were serving these in smaller cups due to the ABV, I was told. Very sweet, as goes most high ABV ales.
POG kettle sour - not bad, a little tart. Lots of fruit. Not a bad fruited sour.
Overall, I think the brewery itself is very cool. A lot of time and effort went into the design of the place. Great spot to bring the kids if you want a beer. It didn’t quite have the charm of bayou teche and their live Cajun music, but it was heads above every other brewery in Louisiana I’ve been to, in terms of brewpub design. It wasn’t a stale taproom at all.
In terms of the beer, I was really hoping for something dry and/or hoppy. I only had 4 beers, but the other beers, based on description, were likely also a little on the sweet side. If they can throw some other styles in the rotation, then it would be great. But based on the styles available last night, it would be hard for me to drink there for a few hours.
Now all of this comes with the caveat that I don’t like high abv beers. I tend to avoid anything that is bourbon barrel, or double. But like I said earlier, if they brew a few different styles, then it would be a great place to hang out for a few hours after work or on the weekend. Plenty of games for the kids, in house pizza made fresh, and an awesome setting.

Great place to hang with average beer they will need to step it up, they also need to do something about the issue of wasps/yellow jackets as they were flying around.
The fruited sours were not bad but not my cup of tea
The barrel aged stout didn't have a lot of flavor to me
The coconilla was probably the best beer that I tried but even it wasn't fantastic
Loved the set up with the 30ft screen showing movies

Another place with a ton of money to make a brewery that probably has lack luster beer and set in a location where it is cool to go out to once but won't get a regular crowd needed to survive.
You sound like a peach. Are you a motivational speaker?

If i need to be. let me guess friends of the owners?

I have no idea where this place is or who owns it. That’s just makes you a dick.

I made a statement of what the establishment looks like based of trends. Look at Port Orleans, they come in with huge money and guess what.... not good beer. Hell Tin roof did the same thing. It seems to be a trend of people with money wanting to start a brewery and forgets that it is about having a decent product.

AC’s post above makes it seem like they do have some decent beers, though.

The beers aren’t terribly made, I just don’t like high ABV beers or overly sweet beers. Their kettle sours were good, but they need more variety.

The stouts and sours are fine. Tin Roof has never brewed a stout as good as theirs. The beer is definitely serviceable to enjoy what is a great brewery experience. If you come away from that place bitching...it’s on you, Istrouma is legit and they have it figured out on how to create an atmosphere. The beer will come along. He’s passionate.
I wish they were planning to execute a true farmhouse style but they didn’t have an agricultural manager or plan to source ingredients onsite.

I agree, I really want this place to be successful but you have to put out good beer and have to keep putting out beer every week. I live down the road and won't be back until they put out a hoppy beer.

I guess that's where so many places struggle. If you read this board and a few others, the main complaint is all the new hip beers are all about hops.

Well I've been twice to support them. The sours are ok but I need something else. I don't do figs

So i've been to Istrouma a few more times since this thread started. The beer is awful. I gave them some leeway to get things straight when i first went there, but the beer is just plain awful. I'd rather drink BMC than some of their stuff. It's just poorly made. EVERYTHING is oxidized. They feel the need to add honey to every single beer, and it doesn't help. Their sours are 1 note, and their "dark beers" lack depth of flavor.
I've heard they've gone through 4 brewers. They need to fix something. The atmosphere is decent. Outside is cool. They could spring for some AC indoors. Taco's are good.

I've resigned myself to the fact that it's a cool setting to go eat some pizza and tacos, and not to even consider it a brewery.

Need to bring back Wiggins, that'll get the hype back

Beer is horrible and they don't believe that to be the case either
