Istrouma Brewery

New small batch brewery opened in St. Gabriel. Turned a red barn into a brewery. Has an on sight food truck doing pizza. Also stuff for the kids to do. Hours are sort of quirky—open Thursday and Friday at 4 pm and Saturday at 11 am.
First impressions: POG beer is my favorite; the Blonde is your standard light beer. The pizza is great. Family friendly and nicely done.

Went last weekend for the game and had a great time. Food was very good. Did not get to have the blonde because it was out when we got there and by the end of the night everything was out.

I'm in. Been wanting to try it. So it's a good place to bring the kids for an early Friday dinner?

Almost stopped in but saw that they had cars parking all the way to Bayou Paul Road. Probably going to wait and go on a Thursday.
My parents were joking that they should let people park in their yard down the road and charge for golf cart shuttle service.
Did they have the game on the giant 30 ft outdoor projector?

I wish I was the owner because it is going to make money. No real competition and great beer.
What is your connection to Lamar?

Another place with a ton of money to make a brewery that probably has lack luster beer and set in a location where it is cool to go out to once but won't get a regular crowd needed to survive.

Went opening night and it was the coolest brewery I’ve been to. The food was good and weather was perfect. That being said, beer line up was really meh. If they put out good beer people will come. Haven’t seen anything posted about new beer since they opened so that’s not a good sign.

I know one of the guys involved from homebrewing and his beer was anything but lackluster. I know homebrewing doesn't always transfer to pro brewing but the dude is creative AF

I've seen pictures of barrels, so i'm assuming they are doing some barrel aging. However, i believe they were whiskey barrels, so it's likely for stouts, though i could be wrong. I may go there Saturday and try it out. I really hope this brewery is a hit. However, i hope they take a different route than "all juice" or the "add anything to make it not taste like beer" route.

Man...if only they'd dump a bunch of peanut butter, fig newtons and lime sunscreen in their beers the real beer fans would be lining up around the block!
And don't forget, they need six different styles of hayze joos.

I prefer technical over creative. Not saying he isn't as I don't know him.

He brews great "technical" beers as well. Unfortunately, a technical ESB won't sell like a pastry stout or some other bs. I enjoy technical beers as well but in todays market you have to be creative with some to succeed.

Technical doesn't mean old world. Technical means knowing how to make a solid beer, and that only happens by knowing your systems and really perfecting your process and recipe. Most "creative" breweries have a lot of duds. In my eyes, a perfect brewery is 80% technical and 20% creative.
And there are tons of breweries out there that are way more technical than creative and they are doing just fine.

Having a few hazy IPAs isn't a bad thing.
Having nothing but hazy IPAs probably is.
