3rd game being 0/10 on third down.
offense was 8/10 on third down against south carolina.
hopefully going forward, LSU can improve the 3rd down converting % like they did this past saturday.

Play calling was immensely better, having a run game to take the heat off the QB is a big plus.

I'd imagine the distance to go was also shorter. Against Missouri we had a ton of 3rd and longs.

We didn’t really try to establish the run in the first three games. It’s almost like the coaches insisted on showing the fan base that they weren’t going to change 2019’s offense without Brady. Starting a true freshman forced them to alter the game plan.

That's what has me wondering/worried. I highly doubt they put in a new playbook. So does that mean the Brennan can't run the offense efficiently? A ball control offense that keeps LSU's defense off the field is necessary, not the boom or bust passing offense that LSU was showing the first 3 games.

They put in a very different set of calls for Finley against USC than what Brennan had against MSU/Mizzou. They supported him through the run game while in the 2 losses we've had we've all but abandoned the running game.
The way the offense was called as a whole was much different this past weekend, not sure how anyone couldn't see that.
Another thing to account for was Brennan dealt with 13 drops in the first 3 games, Finley dealt with 0 drops in our game this past weekend. That's another huge difference where the receivers just played much better as a whole.

quote:I'm pretty sure Brennan is capable of handling the ball off over 20% more and throwing some short range passes. And while TJ runs better than Myles, he doesn't run that much better. It was clearly a different gameplan that was much more QB friendly.
So does that mean the Brennan can't run the offense efficiently?

LSU ran a simpler plan against SCAR. Much more running and very little downfield passing.

it wasn't like LSU didn't try to convert 3rd downs. inaccuracy issues, protections, and drops definitely accounted for most of them.

SCarolina also sucks cock at football sooo

Then let's turn it back to the coaches. Why the hell didn't LSU run this kind of QB freindly offense all along?

the decision not to give the ball to john emery @ mizzou, especially coming off his game at Vanderbilt, was utterly perplexing. Cost them the game. The inability to follow a blue print on what works and is successful has been weird.
But seems like they understood that saturday night that emery needs more touches, and the offense needs more runs. Less Curry, more Emery & TDP. Lets see if they can take what works and build on it.
Long winded comment, but the 3rd downs were better because they were in more manageable situations. Play calling was better overall, as i suspect Linehan took the reigns against SC

definitely didn't make much sense. the mizzou gameplan was terrible. If myles does play against auburn I hope the coaches stick with the run game as a focus with emery and myles can hit the shorter passes like TJ did over and over saturday.

This. It's an improvement for sure. But let's see how they do against the barn this week.

We tried to run against MSU and Mizzou and had zero success. The o line had their best game against USC and it wasn’t even close. Had the o line played like they did against USC we might be sitting at 4-0 even with how dog shite our defense has been. We def would have beaten Mizzou and been able to punch it in from the 1.

If the coaches thought that they wouldn’t be starting him Saturday.

Finley looked much more comfortable than Brennan especially with pressure in his face and when he had to roll out. He’s the true key

Apparently they put a lot more emphasis on running the ball. Having Ingram back made a big difference.
Anyone notice that Bradford and Thomas got some playing time when running out the clock vs SC.
