That’s the new precedent.
Thanks John Roberts.

It's a little different. Those votes were already in-hand, this is referring to receiving votes.
Why 9 days and not 8? Or 10? Or 15? What's the point of having an Election Day if some judge can arbitrarily move the date of ballot acceptance back to whatever point in time they wish?

Need ACB on the court, now.

Is this actually going to happen, though?

It's even worse than that. People who choose to mail-in ballots can't even be expected to mail it in between now and Monday (26th) to ensure it gets there by Nov 3.

My understanding is that SCOTUS refused to hear these cases so the lower court's ruling stand. However once ACB gets confirmed then the plaintiffs will refile and ACB with the four other good justices will hear the case then these lower court ruling have a better chance of getting overturned.

The post mark has to be clearly legible or they're not valid. How many of those have you seen? The next lawsuit will be to count them anyway.

Yes, please.

this is all confusing. A court said that people have to have a witness on absentee ballots and it caused a lot of ballots to be bad.

the OP title is paywalled. It sounds like they gave an extra 3 days because ballots didn't have a witness?

Fine.
Then why not 90?
How about 900?

Uhhh...what do the numbers 90 and 900 have to do with a date?

As long as postmark is Nov 3Rd or earlier
The real question is how easy is it to cheat the postmark requirement?
All it would take is for someone to postmark newly, fabricated ballots with a date on, or prior to, November 3rd.

We continue to reward laziness and lack of responsibility in this country and we will pay the price down the line.
People know when the frickin election is. Even the dumbest of the dumb are bombarded with it up to a year or more before the date.
Sad.

Mail-in ballots can't be opened and counted before poll closing time on Nov. 3 if I'm not mistaken. Opening, verifying and counting millions of votes in an envelope doesn't happen overnight but nine days does sound a little much.

When were Military and absentee counted before this year?
Posted on 10/21/20 at 10:07 am to IT_Dawg
Well that gives the liberals more time to manufacture more votes needed. The liberals are already acting like they are flourishing in their socialist power.

This is what I found on early ballots. Listed in the link is how each state processes their mail-in ballots. Interesting read.
quote:
This table is part of NCSL’s Voting Outside the Polling Place report.
In many states, processing of absentee ballots can begin before they are actually counted. “Processing” means different things in different states, but typically the first step is comparing the affidavit signature on the outside of the return envelope against the voter’s signature on record to ensure a match, or otherwise verify the voter’s identity. See the section titled, “Processing, Verifying, and Counting Absentee Ballots.”
In some states once the signature is verified the envelope can then be opened and the ballot prepared for tabulation. In essence, states that begin processing before Election Day can “tee up” absentee ballots so that they are ready to be counted as soon as the law allows. By permitting election officials to do a lot of the work ahead of time, the counting process on Election Day (and election results reporting) are quicker. Results are not released ahead of time.

So, they basically start count the morning of election day.
