Nightingale: Catcher Jason Castro's new contract with the Houston #Astros is two years, $7 million.

Hell... marwin gonzalez is available. Let’s go ahead and do the tear-down /rebuild with the same damn players as last time. Too bad we missed out on Robbie grossman.

That's a little more than I figured he'd get, but he was the best available reserve C by a long shot

I know his family never left Houston, so this was a preferred destination.

Still big buddies with Bogusevic

Damn... we also missed out on JA Happ.

They really could have put the full band of 100 loss team back together.

Happ is actually the exact kinda arm we probably need to add if someone like Hand or Rosenthal doesn't work out

A Fiers-like inning eater

Hey, there's an idea

All joking aside, pay Fiers to throw batting practice pre-game.

We'd tear the cover off the ball

Fine with Castro as a back up. Not fine with him being a starter.

That's my analysis.

He's a better backup than Garneau.

That's all I have to say about that.

I'm honestly shocked Correa has this mindset. I would have pegged him as the first guy to head towards an NY team. If we lock him down a Correa/Altuve/Bregman core thats pretty damn strong for least the next 4-5 years.

People have said that a lot (not just on here) but he lives in Houston year round and his wife is from South Texas. We will see what happens, he’s 26 so I would be a lot more comfortable with a long term deal for him than in most cases

Outfielder George Springer, arguably the premier position player on this winter’s open market, came off the free-agent board when he agreed to a six-year, $150MM contract with the Blue Jays earlier this week. Unsurprisingly, though, other teams made a serious push to sign the three-time All-Star. The Astros were not one of those clubs, however, as Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle suggests they made no real attempt to re-sign Springer after he turned down their $18.9MM qualifying offer.

I think that's telling. We could resign one of Springer or Correa but not both. If they didn't make an effort to sign George, I tend to read that as a signal they'll go after Correa. Assuming nobody signs extensions during the season, next years SS class is

Lindor
Seager
Correa
Story
Baez

Hopefully that works to our favor as far as competition but I've got a feeling that Lindor is going to set the market with a big arse extension with the Mets

No one would have been surprised to see Correa head to NY, and if the Yankees decide they want him at all costs, I still think he’s gone

But last year he made a statement, first with his play, and now with his mouth. It was known we couldn’t go long term w both he and Springer, and now that Springer is gone, this will be a marriage

It had to hurt his feelings when we prematurely invested in Bregman, but he won’t leave any money on the table after this season. Somewhere around 8 years for 200 M or 6 for 170 M

Are they going to dump Urshela who they control cheaply through 2024 to move Correa to 3rd? Gleyber isn't going anywhere and they just resigned Lemaheiu at 2nd. Don't think the Yankees are a fit for Correa.

I think Crane just gave Click a mandate to stay below the tax and giving George 25 mil a year would have made it too hard to fill out a roster. Doesn’t feel like George was ever a real option regardless of what happens with Correa.

I do think the timing for Correa works out way better with all the money coming off the books next year though. Hope they get it done cause I think he’ll be worth a big deal.

The key is pay up now for CC. If it goes to the open market his arse is gone.

Smart to pick him over springer because of age and also you have 27 and 2 locked in for a few more.

For once, Ryno is right.

Okay, maybe twice.

And the Mets are going to have Lindor so there's no place in NY for Correa to go.

Then you look at the Dodgers-they have Seager and Gavin Lux.

Cubs have Baez, Red Sox have Bogaerts.

So the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, and Red Sox are immediately not in contention.
