The key is pay up now for CC. If it goes to the open market his arse is gone.

Smart to pick him over springer because of age and also you have 27 and 2 locked in for a few more.

I have a pretty good idea how this plays out.

Click: Carlos, we want you for your entire career. How’s 10 years @ $23M/yr with $15M signing bonus sound?
Carlos: that sounds a bit low, but I love it here and want to stay here. Let’s do it.
Click: ok, so we have an agreement?
Carlos: absolutely! 100%!!
Click: excellent. Let me float another idea by you. If we’re not in first place by June 1, We’d like to trade you and pull in some young studs. This whole loss of draft picks has killed our farm. We think we can trade you to a contender and fix that problem. Once the season is over, we sign you to a long term deal. What do you think?
Carlos: yeah, yeah... I see what you’re saying. I can do that. Deal.

(Several months later)

AJ Hinch: I’d like you all to meet our new starting short stop. He just signed a 10 year $260M contract with us. Welcome to Detroit, Carlos.

Carlos: well, it’s great to be here. I’m ready to win some championships.

Click: (... sniff...)
Crane: faaaack

The long term SS and 3B in Yankees uniforms are never certain

Just look at the past 3 or 4 seasons

Granted, you would think they are pretty set, but shite happens

The big draw at one time was the PR community there, the ad money, and Miss Texas future aspirations, but I think we can get it done now

We could resign one of Springer or Correa but not both. If they didn't make an effort to sign George, I tend to read that as a signal they'll go after Correa.

No one here should be surprised. We’ve been saying this would happen for 3 years now Someone had to be the odd man out after Altuve and Bregs were signed

I am not sure I have seen it discussed, but with Springer now officially gone, who will bat leadoff? Is it a given Altuve will reclaim that spot?

Or will they give it to Straw..

I know...I was being a wise-arse.

I swear though, Dusty tried damned hard to make him a leadoff hitter last year. I think Straw batted about .004 when he hit leadoff

I’m guessing regular lineup will be something like

Altuve
Brantley
Bregman
Yordan
Correa
Tucker
Yuli
Maldonado/Castro
Straw/CF

Yeah, Bregs should be leadoff, but he probably won't want it

Tuve too much of a free swinger to leadoff

That is not an awful lineup...as long as:

1) Yuli isn't permanently broken
2) Tucker's surge last year wasn't just a massive tease
3) Moldy Nacho's RBI bat from last year can return in some form
4) They figure something else out for CF

I like this much better. Straw makes JBJ look like Barry Bonds.

They aren't going over the luxury tax. No way they sign bradly after signing Brantley.

Gonna be pillar or someone like that.

I wonder if the Clickenator is considering Kike Hernandez for CF. He's played very well there when asked and apparently wants a 1 year deal. Getting a chance to start in center could really help his value on the next deal while Cubaw Part 3 may be fast tracked to be ready to start in 2022. Might be perfect for both sides.

I like ur thinking

And Kike and Carlos go way back

I bet his numbers would be the best of his career

But can he really play CF?
